Price: £10.74

Volume: 85g / 3.0 oz

Made in: California

What is it?: A Cleansing Balm (with ”only” 10 ingredients)

Brand Description: A Cleansing balm that changes from a ‘buttery’ solid texture to a smooth and silky texture to cleanse makeup, oil and SPF build-up easily. It should leave the skin not feeling overly-dry or stripped.

-The brand state that this has ”only” 10 ingredients (reminds me Etude House’s Soon Jung products in that regard), and that it should rinse clean + leave zero residue. They state this should be non-irritating, with a ”fresh” scent (i.e. smells citrus-y). Japanese Pearl Barley ferment filtrate is included which supposedly helps both nourish + brighten the skin. The brand state that this helps with skin brightening, hydration + improves the skin’s texture. I think this requires long term use to see an improvement! but at least it doesn’t seem to have caused irritation to my skin!

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types

What I think: I think all skin types EXCEPT those with sensitivities to essential oils, as this contains Orange Peel Essential Oil – however the brand does state that the ”Essential Oil Contents is less than 0.99%” I really dislike cleansers that strip my skin of any moisture, I have combo-skin and I found this to be fine.

The Box:

This product comes with a hygiene tab and a spatula. I end up removing hygiene tabs because the product likes to stick to them.

Vegan?: Not Specifically Stated

Cruelty Free?: Yes (all their skincare products are).

Packaging: Plastic Tub with a Spatula + Hygiene Tab (I do remove the hygiene tab after as I find the product will stick to it). I find the packaging very secure. It sort of clicks shut. It’s got a tub within a tub which looks neat.

Directions: ”For gentle daily use, morning or night. Scoop a pea-sized amount of cleansing balm with the included spatula. Warm the balm with dry fingertips until it transforms into a silky oil. Gently massage balm into skin with gentle upward and outward circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water or wipe off with a warm, damp washcloth.” – From the Juno Skin Website.

How I use it: I use this mainly in the PM to remove my SPF. I also can use this as a second cleanse in a 2-step cleanse (if I’m removing makeup i.e. foundation). I do find that this is so soft that I have to use a spatula. I simply scoop and rub into the skin, massaging gently. I also find that I can use this around/on the eyes and it’s ok (no stinging). It’s also easy to wash off (no real oily residue).

Key Ingredients: Vitamin E (Antioxdiant). Saccharomyces Coix Lacryma-jobi Ma-Yuen seed ferment filtrate (Pearl Barley) is the filtrate taken from the fermentation Barley by Saccharomyces (yeast). This is meant to be skin conditioning. (Its also in the iUnik Propolis Vitamin Eye Cream + the Missha Misa Cho Gong Jin Peel Off Pack and the Kose Maihada Sumihada Sun Protector Spf50+ Pa++++ )

Texture: This has a very soft and smooth texture. I would say it is softer than the I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm, the Good Molecules Cleansing Balm BUT not as soft as the Wishful Clean Genie Cleansing Balm. As soon as you open the lid, you’re hit with that orange/citrus smell, which can be calming/relaxing to some. I use a spatula to scoop as I think this is so soft, the product would melt instantly by my finger and cause separation/melt in the tub.

I wanted you to see the texture of this after scooping + scraping a bit. Just so you can see the texture. The product itself is a yellow-ish colour and it definitely looks balmy/waxy in the tub. The tub is turned on its side and as you see, the product hasn’t poured/melted out of it.

You can see here, because I turned the product on it’s side, that some liquid collects and threatens to spill out. This is some simple separation BUT it doesn’t affect the product, the texture of the product or the effectiveness of the product. I haven’t seen this in another cleansing balm before. But I think it kind of shows you how close to melting point this product is – that’s how soft it is.

I hope you can see how soft this looks!

This is initially, before using my spatula to coop. I’ve noticed that very soft cleansing balms usually have these sorts of gaps or holes at the sides – like the Wishful Clean Genie Cleansing Balm.

I know it looks like it’s a candle and could be quite hard and waxy but it’s not.

Swatch:

When applying with a spatula, you can see that the product is already beginning to melt when in contact with the skin. You definitely get a release of that orange smell.

All it takes is a few swipes to get from the above, to the bottom.

It melts very easily and smoothly on the skin. It basically turns into an oil.

The product’s final form:

The more I swipe, the more it becomes an oil – do you see how the consistency has become thinner?

Live Swatch: If you want to see the texture + how the product melts

Fragrance?: Yes, as this contains Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil – an Essential Oil. I don’t mind fragrance too much in cleansers because you wash them off. The brand does state that the ”Essential Oil Contents is less than 0.99%”

Good at Removing Makeup?: Yes – I think this is just as good as the Wishful Skin Clean Genie Cleansing Balm (Review HERE). What I appreciate is that: as someone who wears Kohl + Waterproof Eyeliner, that 1. I can massage this around the eyes and 2. It actually does help remove the makeup adequately.

-Of course I always, always have to use a micellar water to remove residual makeup in the waterline of the eye, but that happens whether I use a cleansing oil or a balm and even double cleanse.

How long have I been using this?: About a month – I will be using until completion.

The Effect?: Cleansed skin with all my SPF and most of my makeup (just apart from residual kohl in the waterline).

What I like:

  • Does not sting my eyes
  • No irritation
  • Nice smell (although I still prefer unfragranced products)
  • Nice soft texture
  • Melts fast, no rubbing or tugging on the skin
  • Removes my waterproof eye makeup!
  • I like the packaging – a good, sturdy tub (doesn’t feel flimsy/cheap
  • Didn’t strip my skin

What I don’t like:

  • I cannot stand the wording + the brand marketing using the words ”Clean” (so are all other skincare products dirty?)
  • I’d prefer unscented products

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4.2/5 Although I really, really don’t like companies using marketing terms like ‘Clean’ and ‘Natural’ and ‘Safe’ – I am judging this product on the juice itself. And, it’s really good! It didn’t need the marketing jargon to sell. The product itself is good enough to sell on its own! the balm does smell really nice (although I always prefer unscented products). It doesn’t sting or irritate my eyes, the balm itself is nice and soft. I would actually say it’s better than the I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm and the Good Molecules Cleansing Balm (but not as soft as the Wishful Skin Clean Genie Cleansing Balm. It melts waterproof eye makeup, and it feels really nice on the skin. It also didn’t make my skin feel like it was drying out.

Would I purchase?: Yes!

Dupe?: Probably the Wishful Skin Clean Genie Cleansing Balm in terms of texture (review HERE) and in terms of smell, the Good Molecules Cleansing Balm (Blog Post HERE).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
