Review: Krave Beauty – Makeup Re-wined (Makeup Removing Cleanser) – Worth the Hype?

Where to purchase: Krave Beauty: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

Price: £22.26

Volume: 100ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: A Jelly-Oil Cleanser that is meant to gently take off makeup and sunblock (using upcycled grape seed oil).

What does it do?: This is meant to easily and gently take off makeup (even eyeliner) + SPF effortlessly (i.e. avoiding the ‘messiness’ of an oil cleanser and a cleansing balm, combining both into one).

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types.

What I think: Oily Skins > Dry (Or at least Dehydrated) Skins. This is unscented, so Sensitive skins could use this.

How does this differ from the Krave Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser?: Both are fragrance + EO Free, Vegan + Cruelty-Free. The Re-wined however, has a more oil-based texture to it (melts into an oil) and doesn’t really foam up, whereas the Krave Cleanser is more jelly-like, has bits of Hemp in the product (that you can see) and foams up a lot). Technically these products are suggested to be used as a double cleanse together i.e. the Re-wined as a first-step to melt down makeup, and then the Hemp Hydrating Cleanser to finish off the cleanse. Personally I couldn’t use both of these together in a double-cleanse as it would strip by dehydration-prone skin dry (but that’s just me!).

Vegan?: Yes.

Cruelty Free?: Yes.

How long does it last after opening?: 12 Months.

pH: 5.0-6.0

Packaging: Really nice! The packaging itself is recyclable which is always a plus. Easy-to-travel-with packaging as this has a flip-top cap and I can control how much product I dispense.

Directions: ”Massage desired amount onto dry skin, then rinse with lukewarm water. Use as a first cleanse.” (From the Krave Website).

How I use it: I used this to remove makeup and/or SPF in the PM. However when removing makeup (especially water-proof makeup), I found that this required not only a double-cleanse, but I also had to go in with another cleanser (Currently using the Youlief Cleansing Oil / Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Oil to do so) in order to remove the waterproof eye makeup.

Note: Krave even offered a tip that you can use this product to also clean your makeup brushes / sponges, and that’s most-certainly what I do! I have been using this to cleanse my makeup brushes and it does work well for that 🙂

Key Ingredients: Grape Seed Oil (Antioxidant + Emollient), Ivy Leaf/Steam Extract (Soothing + Antibacterial), Pyrus Communis Fruit Extract (Skin Conditioning),Rose Water – A Hydrosol (i.e. Diluted Version of Essential Oil, so less potentially irritating. This is supposed to be conditioning for the skin), Honey Melon Seed Extract (Conditioning)

Note: The Cleansing Surfactant in here is: Cetearyl Alcohol.

Full Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Castor Oil/IPDI Copolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pyrus Communis Fruit Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Hedera Helix Leaf/Stem Extract, Cucumis Melo Seed Extract, Iris Florentina Root Extract

Texture: This is more like a gel, than a jelly to me. It doesn’t feel thick or heavy. I did think it would melt more into an oil, but it still feels like a gel when rubbing this into the skin. I do like the smoothness of this when water is added (watch below).

Sticky?: Initially (unless you add water).

Greasy?: Doesn’t really feel greasy and oily (more like a gel). But I can feel that oil-base to this product.

  • As you can see, this has a transparent look to it. Personally I don’t think it really feels like a Jelly (The Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser feels more like a Jelly compared to this), but this does feel smooth. It will run down the hand. It has a slight stickiness, like a gel. But once water is added, this becomes very smooth and easy to run along the skin (no tugging).

Before and After Swatches:

Video Swatch:

As you can see, this does have a jelly-like texture.

Swatch: How easy is this to wash off? Does it Emulsify?

As you can see when water is added: This does emulsify and thins out. It is easy to wash off! Also, this doesn’t really foam up.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free (This also doesn’t have a strong or off-putting scent to it).

Good at Removing Makeup?: Not for me I’m sorry to say. This was fine at removing foundation (and SPF), but did a poor job at removing my waterproof Mascara and Eyeliner (and especially Kohl). Even double-cleansing with this didn’t have much of a difference for me. It also made my skin feel quite tight after cleansing.

Makeup Removal:

Liquid Lip / Black Pencil / Lip Liner

How long have I been using this?: I couldn’t use this more than 3 times on separate occasions before I found it too uncomfortable to use on the face.

Will I use until Completion?: For my face? No. BUT I will use this to wash my makeup brushes + sponge.

The Effect?: This makes my skin feel uncomfortably tight and dry after cleansing. I find that this doesn’t dissolve my waterproof makeup on the eyes (i.e. mascara and kohl) particularly well, even with a double-cleanse. So, I now instead use this to clean my makeup brushes + makeup sponge, which has been very useful!

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Cruelty-Free
  • Recyclable Packaging
  • The packaging makes this easy to use and travel with (easy squeeze-y tube)

What I don’t like:

  • Makes my skin feel tight after cleansing
  • Not that effective at melting my waterproof eye makeup (even with a double-cleanse)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 2/5 – Disappointed in this product as I had really high hopes, but just like the Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser (Review), I was disappointed with how this made my skin feel tight after cleansing. I also don’t think it’s that excellent at melting down makeup, and I end up having to use other products additionally, to try and melt down my eye makeup (so it feels like this step is a bit of a waste). It’s a bit of a shame as I really like the packaging! The packaging is so good, I also like the texture of this and how it emulsifies and is easy to wash off, but overall the effect on my skin and makeup removal just isn’t for me.

Would I repurchase?: No, as I didn’t find this that effective at removing makeup and also it made my skin feel tight after cleansing.

Dupe?: If you want a Jelly texture, then the Geek & Gorgeous Jelly Joker Cleanser is more like a Jelly and dissolves makeup better without making the skin TOO tight (Cleanser Youtube Swatch + Review Video HERE). In terms of adequate makeup removal; the Juno Skin Cleansing Balm is still a favourite of mine AND the Hylamide High Efficiency Makeup Cleanser (Here are my other Makeup Cleansing Favs), as well as the Youlief Cleansing Oil (Review HERE).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
