Review: I’m From Rice Toner

Can be purchased: On Yesstyle: HERE

What is it?: Hydrating, brightening toner.

What does it do: Brightening, Anti-ageing and Hydrating.
Personally, I didn’t see drastic anti-ageing effects or drastic brightening effects. I can say however, that this did help hydrate my skin IF LAYERED. And I think this would brighten skin tone if used CONSISTENTLY. But not drastically.

Price: £22.60

Volume: 150ml

Suitable for: They say all skin types. I would say this is unsuitable for those with very sensitive skin (where everything hurts when applied on the skin) and skin that is severely dehydrated / dry. For those who aren’t too dry and aren’t too sensitive, and want their skin brightened then this should be fine.

Also for ‘uneven and ageing skin’ (due to the Niacinamide).

Directions: Cleanse face, shake bottle (to mix contents), use cotton pad or hands to apply onto face. (quick tip – for an added glow – use the rice toner after exfoliating) – I disagree with this tip because it would sting my face after exfoliation.
-This can be used as a facial mist – I like that idea a lot.

How I use it: Apply onto a cotton pad and swipe OR pour into the palms and pat onto face. I always require 2 layers (1 layer is not hydrating enough for me).

Before Application

After Application (See the glow?)

Separation between phases before shaking

Texture: Near water-like, not viscous.

Under makeup?: Absolutely fine

Fragrance?: No

Packaging: Glass bottle – could be tricky to travel with BUT looks lovely. And this is easy to pour out onto your hand/onto a pad.

Notable Ingredients: 77.78% Gaomi Extract (rice extract) and as we know – rice is supposedly good for brightening the skin tone.
Niacinamide (good for brightening)
Rice bran extract (also for brightening)

Full Ingredients: Rice extract, Methylpropanediol, Triethylhexanoin, Hydrogenated poly (C6-14 olefin), Niacinamide, Pentylene glycol, Common Purslane extract, Rice bran extract, Japanese elm bark extract, Amaranthus caudatus seed extract, Hydrogenated lecithin, Distilled water, Polyglyceryl-10-myristate, Butylene glycol, Adenosine, Cellulose gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol

What I like:

  • No fragrance
  • Very light (water-light)
  • Quickly Absorbs
  • Great for oily skins because it’s light and also relatively dry skins / normal / combo skins
  • Packed with skin-brightening ingredients

What I don’t like:

-Glass bottle – difficult to travel with for fear of smashing in-transit.

-Quite pricey for what it does

-Stings on broken skin (if you are on retinol, or if you have open sores / popped or sore acne bumps).

-Does not hydrate my skin enough

Overall: A good toner. It’s not terrible and you get a large volume so this should last a while. My only issue is the tingling/sting I receive when I apply this onto skin that is being very sensitive. Also, this doesn’t hydrate my skin as much as other toners (such as a hyaluronic acid-loaded toner). I didn’t notice a huge change/difference in my skin tone either.

Overall Score: 3/5

Would I repurchase?: Not really – I just think I have used more hydrating toners out there.

  1. I have the same experience where the toner stings too when it comes in contact with wounded skin. Any idea why is this happening? As far as I remember I don’t allergy to any skincare ingredient yet or have sensitive skin, but it’s my first time using a skin care with niacinamide. Wondering is it because of that.

    1. Oh good I’m not the only one! To be honest I’m not entirely sure! OMG I thought it was the Niacinamide too however since then, I’ve used plenty of products with Niacinamide and this hasn’t happened to me? It could be something else as there are other solvents and/or plant extracts in the product which could be causing the stinging!

  2. I agree, the I’m From Rice Toner is not very hydrating and it is quite pricey. I didn’t get the hype…
If you like milky toners, I recommend you try the Thank You Farmer Rice Pure Essential Toner. IMO, it doesn’t get the love it deserves ❤
It is more hydrating than the I’m From Rice Toner, and it is also more affordable.
