Review: Rovectin Skin Essentials – Activating Treatment Lotion (Is it Advanced?)

Where to purchase: Yesstyle: LINK / Soko Glam: LINK / Coreelle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

Price: ~£20

Volume: 180ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: A Toner/Essence that aims to hydrate the skin and helps reinforce and hydrate the skin with the use of 7 types of Hyaluronic Acid + Antioxidants + Natural Moisturising Factors.

What does the brand say?: The brand states that this is anti-ageing (due to the inclusion of antioxidants which protect collagen deterioration in the skin, and due to Niacinamide), and that this product improves the skin’s texture and moisturisation levels.

Aims to: reduce Dryness, Dark Spots, Fine Lines, Wrinkles + Reduce Pores.

Supposedly Good for: Dry, Normal, Combination, Oily, and Sensitive Skin.

What I think: I agree with all the above. I do think this is viscous enough for Dry skins to enjoy it (especially as a first step in a Dry-skin routine) and it’s a great all-in-one toner/essence for Oily + Sensitive Skins.

Directions: ”After cleansing, apply a proper amount (dime-sized) on the face evenly and pat gently for better absorption.” (From the Rovectin Website).

How I use it: I apply this mainly in the PM either as an Essence or as a Toner (works both ways). It’s both easy to apply this with the hands and/or with a cotton pad. It’s also layerable so I can swipe with a cotton pad and apply with the fingers on top.

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Brightening + Anti-blemish + helps reduce wrinkles + fine lines), Caffeine (Antioxidant that also helps de-puff the skin), Chamomile Extract (Antioxidant + Soothing), Centella Asiatica (Soothing + Antioxidant), Liquorice Root Extract (Brightening), Adenosine (Skin-barrier reinforcing). Trehalose (hydrating + moisturising). Panthenol (Soothing + Hydrating).

Note: This contains 7 Types of Hyaluronic Acid: Sodium Hyaluronate, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Potassium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer. Like the Hada Labo Premium Lotion and Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner and the Anua birch Toner, this contains multiple forms of Hyaluronic Acid with different molecular weights and functions which means this product penetrates both the inner and outer layers of the skin to improve the skin’s moisture.

Full Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Methyl Gluceth-20, Pentylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Sorbitol, Adenosine, Caffeine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Arginine, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola) Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sprout Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium PCA, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Trehalose, Sodium Polyglutamate, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Potassium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Disodium EDTA

Texture: A lovely, lightweight and fresh essence that feels hydrating, not sticky, oily or tacky and greasy. It layers nicely over and under things. It doesn’t seem to sting, itch or burn which makes this pleasant to wear. There’s no oily finish and it’s comfortable sitting on the skin for my oily-combo skin (in the AM and/or PM). This has a unique texture. It’s ALMOST gloopy like Snail Mucin, but it’s not! It’s got some viscosity to it BUT it doesn’t ball up which is usually the case when it comes to thicker toners.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: No: It’s almost greasy. Similar to the Dear, Klairs Fundamental Oil-Watery Drop Ampoule HERE.

Balls up?: No.

  • As you can see this is a transparent liquid that when this spreads along the skin; it’s glossy and hydrating and doesn’t look thick BUT it almost looks oily. It’s not oily, but it almost feels it. That means this has some viscosity to it and an almost gloopiness, but it’s a pleasant and hydrating and soothing texture and feel on the skin.

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol use?: Can do due to the Niacinamide + Hyaluronic Acid in here. So I would say Sensitive skins would enjoy this, but sensitised skins could find this slightly stingy.

Summer or Winter?: Dry Skins: Both Seasons. Oily Skins: Winter > Summer unless you are wearing this as both a toner and essence (i.e. fewer steps).

Layerable?: Yes.

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, this product is watery and lightweight and runs down the skin. It’s not sticky.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free. This also doesn’t smell of anything.

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: 3 Months.

Will I use until Completion?: Yes!

How Long will that take?: 4-5 Months (A little goes a long way due to how watery and lightweight this is).

The Effect?: Immediately – Hydrating. Long-Term – Helps reduce Skin irritation. This hasn’t changed the look of my skin, but it has helped the feel of it (i.e. hydrating and reinforcing).

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Vegan + Cruelty-Free
  • Lightweight
  • No balling / pilling up
  • Hydrating + Soothing
  • cocktail of skin-beneficial ingredients
  • Didn’t worsen my skin (cause breakouts etc)

What I don’t like:

  • Could be slightly too thick for oily skin in the summer
  • Hasn’t changed the look of my skin (but has helped reduce irritation + hydrates the skin)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 – a lovely, lightweight, hydrating and uniquely-textured product. It hasn’t changed my skin hugely BUT it has helped keep my skin in a good condition, and has given my skin that nice boost of hydration I need, without being irritating. I do recommend this into one’s skincare routine as it helps improve the skin’s health and hydration. I do think Sensitive skins would enjoy the benefits of this product as it’s low-irritation (not sensitised however).

Would I repurchase?: Yes – I like this addition of hydration into the skin.

Dupe?: This is a good dupe of the Niod Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Complex (Review HERE).

The Dear, Klairs Fundamental Watery Oily Drop has a similar texture (also vegan + cruelty-Free) HERE.

A product with a similar texture and formulation (I.e. Multi-Hyaluronic Acid Complex) is the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Water Essence (Review HERE).

The Hada Labo Premium Lotion is also similar with its Multi-molecular Hyaluronic Acid Complex

Also, The Isntree TW-Bifida Ampoule also has a similar cocktail of skin-beneficial ingredients (i.e. helps improve the look and feel and hydration levels of the skin) and a similar texture (Review HERE).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
