Now, in this video, we’re going to be discussing products; Specifically, Toners and Ampoules; from the K-Beauty; Vegan and Cruelty-Free Brand: Skin1004, or Skin Cheonsa!
The brand’s products all centre on Centella Asiatica or Cica, specifically derived from Madagascar. Which aims to both soothe and calm the skin; promoting the skin’s barrier function and reducing redness and irritation.
These products come from 3 different ranges that all contain Cica; but vary slightly in order to achieve different skin results.
So, in this video we’ll be discussing the Hyalu-Cica, Centella and Brightening range from Skin 1004!
AND Skin1004 have graciously offered to give away 20 of these sets to 20 of you lovely subscribers! So you can win a pairing from one of the ranges. There will be 10 winners selected from my Instagram and 10 from Youtube, so please stay tuned to know how to participate!
And of Note: All these products are Fragrance and Essential Oil Free and are Vegan and Cruelty-Free!
Now: Let’s get on with the Video!
We’ll start off with products from the Centella Line! And specifically; the Madagascar Centella Asiatica Toner! Which is a daily-use toner that can be used in the AM or PM.
It aims to Gently Decongest and Exfoliate the Skin while improving the skin’s hydration levels.
It’s aimed at Sensitive Skins and First-Time Acid Users as this contains PHA or Gluconolactone which I just mentioned in my previous video It is a PolyHydroxyAcid: A new-generation relative of AHA; that is much less aggressive and doesn’t sensitise the skin to the sun. As it is a larger molecule than AHAs; it gently exfoliates the skin and draws in moisture, making it a hydrating ingredient as well.
Another Key Ingredient is of course Cica; an antioxidant that provides soothing and comforting relief to the skin. Niacinamide is included which helps brighten and reinforce the skin as well as regulate sebum production.
Other ingredients include Hyaluronic acid which is hydrating, Adenosine, which is skin-barrier reinforcing, and Betaine which is moisturising. Liquorice Root Extract is also included and is brightening.
So overall this toner gently exfoliates and improves the overall look of the skin while soothing it.
In terms of the Scent: I don’t get any fragrance from this.
In terms of the Texture: This is extremely watery and lightweight, its not sticky or tacky and absorbs fast. You can use this product to swipe with a cotton pad or apply with the fingers!
Overall, I’d recommend this to all skin types, if you want a gentle exfoliation and have Oily-Combination Skin!
Next Up from the same Cica Range is the Ampoule!:
And what’s the difference between a toner and an Ampoule? Well: Ampoules are to be used after toners and are usually slightly thicker. They usually contain higher concentrations of active ingredients whereas toners are mainly used to restore the skin’s pH after cleansing and prep the skin for the next step of skincare.
In terms of this Cica Ampoule, it does have a higher concentration of Cica, and by that I mean it contains just 100% Centella Asiatica Extract! Meaning that this ampoule is great for Sensitive and Sensitised Skins, irritated through shaving or heavy retinol use, as it doesn’t sting or burn, and works to repair the skin’s barrier and alleviate signs of irritation through the Cica Extract which provides antioxidant benefits. It also seemingly helps regulate sebum regulation.
This daily-use ampoule can be used in the AM and PM; it doesn’t have a scent, and the texture is lightweight and is easy to massage into the skin without leaving a greasy finish.
Also, this is a good dupe for the I’m From Mugwort Essence as both products work really when the skin is irritated.
All skin types could use this, but Oily to Combination Skins may prefer it due to its light texture.
Next up is the Hyalu-Cica Line and we’re diving right into the Hyalu-Cica Toner! Which aims to moisturise, hydrate, soothe and brighten the skin.
Key Ingredients Include Niacinamide which is Sebum-regulating; therefore helping with blemish-prone skins and It’s also a brightening, reinforcing antioxidant. Capryloyl Salicylic Acid is included which is an Exfoliant and therefore helps both decongest the skin, regulate sebum and reduce the chance of breakouts. Adenosine is added which also helps reinforce the skin’s barrier, as well as Hyaluronic Acid which is hydrating, and Ceramide NP as well as Capric Triglyceride which are Moisturising.
Polyglutamic Acid is added which is also a hydrating ingredient; supposedly more efficient at drawing moisture into the skin than Hyaluronic Acid itself. Other sugars included such as Xylitol; which also draws moisture into the skin. Ivy Leaf Extract is added which is a soothing and antimicrobial ingredient.
This product doesn’t have a scent to it and in terms of the texture, it’s watery and lightweight with no sticky or tacky finish. It does feel hydrating and sinks into the skin easily.
So overall: This toner works to intensely hydrate the skin while regulating sebum production – so it’s great for oily and blemish-prone skins.
Next up from the Hyalu-Cica Range is the Ampoule! Like the toner, this daiy-use ampoule which can be used both in the AM and PM: aims to hydrate and soothe the skin in a more concentrated manner as this contains a significant amount of Centella Asiatica Extract (92% to be exact) and so provides skin-reinforcing, hydrating and soothing properties to the skin. Other antioxidants included are: Turmeric Extract, which is also brightening, and Purslane Extract.
Other Hydrating and Moisturising Ingredients added are: Niacinamide which is also brightening and sebum-regulating, as well as 2 forms of Hyaluronic Acid. Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract, Aloe Flower Extract and Plum Extract are added Emollients and Hydrators.
This feels lightweight, fast-absorbing and non-sticky. It definitely feels refreshing and hydrating on the skin and doesn’t give a tacky feeling and this doesn’t have a scent to it.
Overall I’d recommend this to Dehydrated Skins but also Oily and Combination Skins too.
Next up is the Tone Brightening Line which as it says: works to brighten the skin’s tone and lighten pigmentation as well as Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.
So first up is the Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Boosting Toner which is a daily-use toner that can be used in the AM and PM. It focuses on gently exfoliating and hydrating the skin to improve the overall tone and texture of it.
What makes this special is that it contains a patented ingredient complex called ‘’Madewhite’’ which is obtained from Centella (Aqua, Pentylene Glycol + Madecassoside) and helps to brighten Skin Pigmentation while Reducing Irritation.
Adding to exfoliation and tone brightening are Fruit Extracts: Namely Papaya and Apple which help exfoliate the skin through AHAs to help brighten the skin’s tone.
Other key ingredients include: Niacinamide which is also brightening, sebum regulating and soothing. Of course, Madecassoside and Cica are included which soothe the skin, and Grape Extract; is an added soothing antioxidant.
Furthermore, a Vitamin C Derivative (3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid) is also included, which helps brighten the skin. Other Moisturising and Hydrating ingredients include Triglycerides, Panthenol, Betaine, Numerous Sugars and more Fruit Extracts.
This also has no scent and in terms of the texture, this is very lightweight and watery.
So overall this product namely focuses on brightening the skin, but doing so in a more gentle way, for first-time acid users and sensitive skins. All skin types could use this, but do to the lightweight texture; Normal-Oily Skins may prefer this.
Last but not least, also from the Brightening Line, is the Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Capsule Ampoule (now that’s a mouthful!)
This daily use, AM and PM ampoule is meant to brighten the skin and reduce the look of dark spots and pigmentation!
What makes this different from the Toner is that this contains encapsulated Madecassoside which are the little balls you can see in the product. Encapsulating this ingredient is supposed to ensure that it’s more potently absorbed into the skin for a greater soothing and also brightening effect!
Additionally, this contains Tranexamic Acid which the toner doesn’t, and Tranexamic Acid is known to brighten the skin and reduce the look of dark spots.
Other key brightening ingredients include Niacinamide which is also sebum regulating and skin-conditioning, as well as a Vitamin C Derivative: 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic acid, a Vitamin C Derivative, to help lighten pigmentation.
In terms of soothing ingredients: This product is made up of 77% Centella Asiatica which is soothing and barrier repairing, as well as Panthenol, Lactobacillus Ferment and Arginine which all work to hydrate and soothe the skin. Other Hydrators include Betaine and Numerous Sugars.
So as you can see, this is a hydrating but most-importantly; A gently brightening Ampoule!
This doesn’t really have a scent to it and in terms of the texture: This does initially feel a bit lumpy because of the encapsulated Madecassoside; but once massaging this product into the skin, the little balls burst open, and the product becomes smooth and easy to massage on the skin. It absorbs quick without leaving residue.
I definitely think this is a nice, refreshing lightweight ampoule that could be used by all skin types; however Oily to Combination Skins may enjoy it more.
In fact, with all of these products: They are definitely more suited towards sensitive skins and those who reach for more gentler skincare due to allergies or who are nervous about using hard-hitting acids and retinols.
However, I do think that this can be paired with those who are on Retinoids and would like some gentle exfoliation, brightening or hydration on the side too.
Overall; those with Normal-Oily Skins may prefer this over Dry Skins; and those living in warmer weather could also enjoy how lightweight these products are.
I think it’s interesting that the core ingredients in all these products are Cica and Cica components, to keep those soothing properties in each product, and then they vary slightly in formulation to suit different skin needs. I really like the brightening line myself, but the Centella Ampoule has been extremely important when my skin has been irritated or sensitised. But overall I really enjoy gentle products so I think all of these are worth trying out!

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
