What is it?: A Hydrating, lightweight Jelly-like Moisturiser which helps to calm + soothe the skin and reduce the look of redness.

What does it do?: Reduce Redness + Calm/Soothe sensitised skin

Brand Description: This Jelly-like Moisturiser helps to soothe + hydrate the skin.

Supposedly Good for: Sensitive Skin

What I think: I would agree. Sensitive + Sensitised Skins would like this. And in terms of the texture of this, Oily skins may prefer this over dry skins.

Directions: ”Can be used in the AM / PM. Apply a Blueberry Sized amount to the face and neck after cleansing + serums. An extra tip is to put this in the fridge and refrigerate for 30 minutes before using.”

How I use it: I use this precisely when/if the skin is sensitised/irritated from Retinol or shaving etc. This is usually in the PM (also to avoid any issues with SPF layerability). and I use this as a moisturiser (last step of the routine). I definitely think less is more in terms of application i.e. apply a blueberry sized amount and not a coin sized amount.

Key Ingredients: 0.3% Tremella fuciformis extract (Mushroom) – Soothing.  2% Amino Acid based humectant helps to hydrate and moisturise the skin. 0.2% Madecassoside – Anti-itching + redness.

What is Tremella Fuciformis Extract?: It is a Moisturiser + Humectant ingredient. It’s a big sugar molecule (Contains Mannose, Xylose + Glucuronic Acid) which comes from the Silver Ear Mushroom in China. It supposedly has higher water-holding properties than hyaluronic acid (as it contains Glucuronic acid which is also a big part of Hyaluronic Acid). What’s interesting is that this ingredient is specifically meant to be not sticky however I find that it is if layered on top of products (works absolutely fine on its own), or if too much is applied – but that may be due to the Glycerin.

Interestingly, this ingredient is also found in the Geek & Gorgeous HA 5 Light Serum + HA 5 Rich Serum! (I guess to improve the humectancy of the product). And also in The Plant Base Collagen Ampoule (Review HERE).

Full Ingredients: Aqua (Water/Eau), Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Caproyl Prolinate, Lecithin, Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Carbomer, Madecassoside, Sodium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate

Texture: Gel texture + lightweight! No greasy/oily finish. Spreads smoothly and nicely along the skin. Transparent. On its own, this makes the skin feel soft, hydrated, moisturised + smoothed. My issue is if this is applied on top of other skincare products and if too much product is used (don’t use more than a blueberry amount for the face/neck) – this becomes slightly sticky + tacky (possibly due to the Glycerin). So less is more with this kind of product. I’ve found that a way to get past the slight tackiness is to apply a more emollient/fatty cream on top which dispenses the stickiness.

The Inkey List claim that this is cooling but I wouldn’t say it feels cooling (unless you refrigerate it), but I would say it feels calming as soon as applied to irritated skin.

As you can see this is transparent and looks like a gel/jelly

Spreads nice and easily along the skin (doesn’t immediately start balling up).

Hopefully you can see that this isn’t thick!

Video Face Swatch:

Hopefully you can see here that the product is lightweight and does blend into the skin (if not too much is added and not too many products are layered underneath).

Fragrance?: No added fragrance and/or essential oils – This also smells of nothing to me.

Good Under Makeup?: It may be slightly tricky as this tends to be a little sticky/sit on top of the skin if applied on top of other skincare, so I would say this may suit a PM routine better UNLESS very few steps + a thin layer of foundation is used on top to prevent any possible issues.

How long have I been using this?: About 3 months (Not yet finished with it, got about 1/4 or 1/5 left). It’s lasted this long because I find myself using this only if the skin is irritated/sensitised and not if the skin feels regular, and I think that is subconsciously because of the slight stickiness/tackiness this can have.

The Effect?: This eases my skin irritation/sensitisation so it feels calming on the skin. It also provides my skin with a hydrated, smooth feeling. If this is applied without layers underneath, the skin definitely feels smooth.

What I like:

  • Did not irritate my skin
  • Smoothes out the skin
  • Hydrating/Moisturising
  • Calms down the skin
  • No added fragrance and/or essential oils
  • I can use it when my skin is sensitised (Doesn’t sting).

What I don’t like:

  • Feels a bit sticky IF this is used on top of products and/or too much is used (i.e. a coin sized amount). A Ceramide, more fatty moisturiser is needed on top then to disperse that feeling – which makes me prefer to use this in the PM to avoid any layering issues / balling up if too much is added.

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 – Took a point away for the slight stickiness (and possible balling up/layering issues I get) I get when applying over my skincare and/or if I apply too much (i.e. >Blueberry amount). Really recommend mostly to sensitive/sensitised skins that find it hard to use any products without the skin stinging as this did not sting my skin, even when irritated by retinol / shaving etc. I gave this a high score because it’s lightweight (doesn’t make the skin feel like it can’t breathe and can be used in the summer). Also, it’s very rare to be able to use a product that doesn’t sting/itch or burn when/if the skin is sensitised, so I really appreciate that! Another good sensitised skin product is the I’m From Mugwort Essence (Review Here).

Would I repurchase?: Yes. I wouldn’t use this as a regular day-to-day moisturiser, but as a post-sun soothing gel and/or as a moisturiser when the skin is irritated/sensitised from shaving and/or retinol.

Dupe?: Aloe Vera Gel would be a dupe, The Etude 99% Aloe Soothing Gel HERE is a good dupe AND also contains the Same Snow Mushroom Extract! However I find that the texture and layerability of this is slightly better/nicer than an aloe vera gel.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T-zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
