Review – Skinfix Barrier Line (Is it worth it?)

Hello all! – I wanted to share my honest review and opinions after trying out some products sent to me by Skinfix, a Vegan + Cruelty-Free brand.

They sent their three products from the Lipid+ Barrier Line: A Serum; The Triple Lipid + Collagen Activating Serum, an Eye Cream; the Triple Lipid + Collagen Eye treatment and lastly, the Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream.

What makes the Barrier+ Range different?: This line contains Triple Lipids i.e. 3 forms of fatty ingredients that exist naturally in the skin (think; Natural Moisturising Factors) to help attain and maintain optimal skin health and replenish and restore the skin’s barrier and prevent trans-epidermal water loss.

So overall. this range works to protect, repair and keep the skin’s uppermost layer resilient against irritators (i.e. pollution).

Note: Available to purchase at Skinfix: LINK / and Sephora: LINK

NOTE: These products are all Vegan and Cruelty-Free

Triple Lipid + Collagen Activating Serum

Price: $69 / £56

Volume: ~30ml

What is it: A ”face firming serum” that works to improve the skin’s barrier (providing extra ceramides and fatty acids) to increase collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin to plump up the skin.

What makes this special/different?: This contains a 9% patent-pending B-L3™ Complex which boosts the skin’s ceramide and fatty acid levels (works to improve the skin’s lipid barrier) and reduce trans epidermal water loss. This also contains 6 Peptides which help replenish and plump up the skin (encourages skin renewal). 2% Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) has a plethora of skin-beneficial ingredients too.

Directions: Apply 1-2 pumps to the face this after toning (AM and PM) as the company states this helps prime the skin and maximise the efficacy of the following skincare after.

Packaging: Plastic bottle with a long lid that clicks into place. This is a pump mechanism which is easy to use. The packaging is easy to travel with as well.

Texture: This is a cream. To my Oily-Combination skin, this feels like a moisturiser (but not very thick) it is more emollient (lightweight emollient) than it is a thick cream. This is not sticky or tacky.

Is this sticky?: No.

Is this greasy?: It’s almost greasy as there are emollients in here. But this doesn’t feel oily and out of all three products, this feels the most lightweight (hence why my Oily-Combo skin can use this).

Pros:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Cruelty-free
  • Relatively lightweight
  • Moisturising
  • Doesn’t ball up
  • Not sticky or tacky
  • Didn’t sting or irritate my skin

Cons:

  • Not that hydrating (for my oily-combo skin)
  • Unpleasant smell (to me)

Recommended Skin Types: Normal, Combination, Dry, Oily-Combination (in the winter) and Sensitive Skins.

My Review + Experience: In terms of the texture, this has had a nice, lightweight finish and is moisturising. It has helped improve and reinforce my skin’s natural state and overall maintain the skin’s health. The biggest drawback of using this product for me, has been the scent of this. Although it is fragrance and essential oil free, this really smells like a swimming pool to me (which isn’t fun).

Dupes: The Stratia Liquid (now Lipid) Gold is quite similar containing almost half of the same ingredients, both containing Niacinamide (Swatches + Review HERE).

Available at: Stratia Skin LINK

Another Dupe: For those with oilier skins who want a lightweight serum; the Byoma Brightening Serum contains half the same ingredients including (as both are Vegan and Fragrance / EO Free) both contain Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and brighten the skin

Texture: This has a typical cream texture. This is emollient and isn’t sticky or tacky (doesn’t ball up). This is quite thick, however for my oily-combination skin. It almost has a ”suffocating” feeling on top of the skin and has a creamy residue on top of the skin for me.

The packaging: This has identical packaging to The Inkey List’s Peptide Cream and Drunk Elephant’s Peptide Moisturiser.

As you can see, this is a creamy moisturiser. It’s not water-based and doesn’t run down the hand. It does soften the skin but also does feel slightly heavy on my combination skin.

Pros:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Cruelty-free
  • Moisturising
  • Doesn’t ball up
  • Good, sturdy packaging
  • Didn’t sting or irritate my skin

Cons:

  • Too thick and uncomfortable for my oily-combo skin

Recommended Skin Types: Normal, Dry and Combination-Dry + Sensitive Skins

My Review and Experience: This definitely is a moisturising cream that does help build the skin’s resilience and is gentle. It’s not sticky or tacky and doesn’t ball up. However for my Oily-Combo skin, I found this far too thick to wear (even during the winter) so could not continue with this product. I recommend this more to Normal-Dry and Sensitive Skins.

Dupe: The Inkey List’s Peptide Cream (Swatches + Review HERE) also contains Peptides (although different peptides like Acetyl Hexapeptide-37, -48), has an almost identical texture and the same packaging.

Available at: The Inkey List LINK / Cult Beauty LINK / Feel Unique LINK

  • The CeraVe Moisturizing Cream has half the same ingredients. It is loaded with emollients and natural moisturising factors which help replenish the skin’s barrier and prevent TEWL while softening the skin.

Available at: Cult Beauty LINK / Target LINK / Beauty Bay LINK / Dermstore LINK

  • The Indeed Labs Cream (Swatches + Review HERE) is also just as creamy (but doesn’t contain peptides) and is slightly more tolerable for Normal-Combination Skins.

Available at: Ulta: LINK / Look Fantastic: LINK

Also from Indeed Labs, is the in-Circadian Night Mask (My Review HERE) it’s just as thick as this peptide cream.

Available at: Look Fantastic LINK / Ulta: LINK

  • The Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask (Swatches + Review HERE) is soothing (with the use of Cica) and is also just as thick as the Skinfix cream (doesn’t contain Peptides however).

Texture:

As you can see, this is a creamy, emollient eye cream. This isn’t sticky or tacky, it’s not greasy and does not ball up and absorbs relatively quickly and effectively. This also smoothes out the skin. However I do get this sort of menthol (prickling) feeling when wearing this product (and it also smells like menthol).

Pros:

  • Moisturising
  • Came with a hygiene tab
  • Doesn’t ball up
  • Not sticky
  • Didn’t irritate my eyes
  • Softens the skin (and the lips)
  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Cruelty-Free

Cons:

  • Not a fan of the Menthol-type scent
  • A bit odd on the lips (I prefer this on the eyes)

Recommended Skin Type: Normal, Combination and Dry Skin Types.

My Experience / Review: A moisturising eye cream. I appreciate that it’s smooth and not sticky, however I’m not a fan of the sort-of menthol scent. That being said; this is definitely moisturising, I haven’t seen a huge difference in eye bags but the puffiness in the morning reduces thanks to massaging this product in. I would recommend this most to those who have dry eyes as it should really help with creepy skin that needs some moisture.

Dupes: The Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Eye Cream has similar ingredient and is also creamy, smooth and moisturising.

Available at Notino LINK

  • The CeraVe Eye Repair Cream us also very similar in ingredients to this Skinfix eye cream however it is slightly less creamy (smooth).

Available at Beauty Bay LINK / Cult Beauty LINK

Conclusion

Due to my skin type and sensitivities, these products have been a mixed back for me; the cream is far too thick for my oily-combo skin (but it is moisturising). The eye cream is moisturising and has a nice texture. It does have a slight menthol scent to it, but it smells the best out of these products. The Serum has a decent texture, is definitely moisturising + supportive and my oily-combo skin can wear it in the evening, but the smell is very unpleasant to me.

Overall the Eye Cream and Serum have been my favourites, due to their texture and wearability (I will keep using them). I haven’t found that any of these products have dramatically changed my skin, but they are good moisturisers and help smooth and soften the skin (and I enjoy the serum and the face cream’s packaging).

Note: Available to purchase at Skinfix: LINK / and Sephora: LINK

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
