Review: iUNIK Centella Calming Daily Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++

Where to purchase: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

Price: £11.60

Volume: 60ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: An SPF50+ PA++++ Chemical (Organic), cream Sunblock with no white cast.

What makes this different?: Contains 49% Cica Extract, Adenosine and Beta-Glucan to soothe the skin and provide well-ageing benefits without leaving a white cast and a non-sticky finish.

Aims to: Soothe, moisturise and protect the skin.

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types

What I think: I would agree (even my Oily-Combo skin could wear this). Very oily skins in hot and humid weather may find this a little too dewy however (this is not mattifying). I would not recommend this to those with sensitive eyes however.

Malessezia Suitable?: No

EU-allergen-free: Yes

Vegan?: No

Cruelty Free?: Yes

How long does it last after opening?: 6 Months.

Packaging: Plastic tube with a screw-top lid that clicks when it’s sealed. The nozzle/nib is thin and so it’s easy to dispense product.

Directions: ”At the last step of your skin care routine, apply a proper amount of the sunscreen to your face and body parts that are exposed to sunlight.”

How I use it: I apply this as instructed. I don’t need to apply a mattifying powder as this isn’t too shiny. I also don’t feel the need to apply a moisturiser underneath (oily-combo skin). It’s easy to re-apply due to the texture.

Does this turn milky when sweating?: No.

Sunscreen Filters: Uvinul A Plus (UVA) / Uvinul T 150 (UVB) / Tinosorb M (UVA + UVB) / Polysilicone-15 (UVB).

Note: Tinosorb M is a half-physical and half-chemical sunscreen filter however I’m assuming there isn’t a huge amount of this because it didn’t make me look grey / ashy (and other sunblocks containing this have).

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-blemish + Brightening + Skin-reinforcing) / 49% Cica (Antioxidant + Soothing) / Adenosine (Barrier reinforcing) / Beta-Glucan, Allantoin + Liqurice (Soothing). Note: All the above are also Hydrating / Moisturising.

Full Ingredients: Centella Asiatica Extract(49%), Water, Dibutyl Adipate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol, Polysilicone-15, 1,2-Hexanediol, Beta-Glucan, Allantoin, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Arachidyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Behenyl Alcohol, Decyl Glucoside, Caprylyl Glycol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Hydroxyacetophenone, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Carbomer, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Adenosine, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Glucose, t-Butyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA

Texture: This has a lightweight creamy texture that feels slightly hydrating and definitely moisturising. It spreads far and doesn’t feel heavily silicone.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: No.

Balls up?: No.

  • As you can see, this starts out as an opaque cream.

Yes it looks ”textured” but smooths out the more you spread (doesn’t actually feel bumpy)

As you can see, the white is slowly disappearing as this starts to get absorbed. It provides a moisturising feeling to the skin.

Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Yes. That does not mean that sensitive skins cannot use this.

Summer or Winter?: My oily-combo skin could use this in the summer as it’s lightweight enough. Dry skins could also enjoy this in the summer. I think very oily skins might not find this mattifying enough.

Layerable?: Yes

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, this is a lightweight cream SPF. It does not feel thick or too greasy on the skin and does not leave a white cast. It is also not sticky.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free (simply smells of a sunblock)

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: 1 Month (as I can’t continue using this due to it stinging my eyes).

Will I use until Completion?: I will not use it on my face anymore (due to it stinging my eyes) But I really like the lightweight texture and moisturising feel, so I will apply it on the ears and neck.

The Effect?: Sun-protected skin that feels mildly moisturised with no white cast.

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 3.8 / 5 – I really enjoy the texture of this sunblock! It’s lightweight, there’s no white cast for my Warm Golden Tone skin, and I can easily re-apply it. It’s not too dewy or glowy which is also nice. My only issue is, especially after wearing this for a long time (i.e. over 2 hours), this does start to irritate my eyes (which doesn’t happen often with sunblocks for me) a, so I wouldn’t recommend wearing this sunblock if you’re going to be out all day, but it’s fine to wear if you’re nipping to the supermarket or wearing it for a few hours (if you have sensitive eyes). So yes, I like everything (doesn’t feel too oily/greasy or thick for my oily-combo skin), it’s just the eye sensitivity that makes this tricky for me to wear and difficult to fully recommend.

Would I repurchase?: It’s really frustrating because I absolutely would, If this didn’t sting / irritate my eyes.

Video: Thank you Farmer Sunblock Review

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
