[Video] Be Plain – K-Beauty Ampoule Review! Are they gentle?

Hello all!

I purchased 4 Ampoules from the Cruelty-Free (sometimes Vegan), K-beauty brand: Beplain. So in this review video; we’re going to be swatching, reviewing and providing dupes for these Ampoules. And although these are called ampoules; the brand interchanges the word with serums.

  • these ampoules are Fragrance and Essential Oil-Free and are tolerable for sensitive skins (which is why I like them!).

Note: There is updated packaging for some of these ampoules BUT they have the same ingredients so don’t worry!

NOTE: Be Plain is available at Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

First up is the Be Plain – Cicaful Ampoule (30ml)

Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK / Olive Young: LINK

This is a Daily-use soothing and hydrating serum that can be used both in the AM and PM.

It is a skin-barrier restoring ampoule that contains 84% Centella Asiatica which; as explained in my Apieu Brand Review; Cica works to reduce redness and irritation in the skin, improve collagen and provide antioxidative properties for the skin.  Madecassoside is also included which like Cica; adds to soothing irritated skin and helps repair it. Allantoin, Panthenol and Chamomile Extract are also skin-soothers and hydrators to help reduce irritation.

Hyaluronic acid is also included to hydrate the skin.

In terms of the scent, this has no scent to it.

And in terms of the texture; this is very lightweight. It’s not sticky, tacky and doesn’t ball up. It’s a hydrating serum that works not just for Sensitive, Sensitised and redness-prone skin to reinforce the skin’s barrier (like skin irritated from retinol-use for instance), but this could also work for Oily, Combination skins even during hot weather.

In terms of a dupe: this is similar in texture and composition to the A’pieu Madecassoside Ampoule (which I have reviewed) at 99.9% centella extract and 0.01% Madecassoside and is very soothing.

A’pieu Brand Review:

Furthermore, the Skin1004 Centella Asiatica Ampoule (Swatches + Review HERE), is a very lightweight and watery dupe, similar to the Be Plain serum and contains just Centella Asiatica Extract.

Skin1004 Brand Review:

Furthermore, the Mary and May Centella Asiatic Serum (which I just reviewed in the video below) is also a good, soothing dupe with 95% Cica extract so slightly higher than this serum; and it too is also lightweight.

Next up is the BeplainMulti Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule! – (Not Malassezia suitable)

Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK / Olive Young: LINK / iHerb: LINK

This Vegan ampoule is very gentle and helps heal, hydrate and plump the skin, softening it too. It does this by using two forms of Hyaluronic acid to penetrate the skin and sugar molecules that draw water into the skin. Interestingly Snow Mushroom is used (which I mentioned in the Mary and May video) which is apparently is an even greater humectant than hyaluronic acid!

Numerous proteins and Natural Moisturising Factors (listed on the screen now) are also included. These draw water into the skin, helping to protect the skin’s barrier from trans epidermal water loss.

Beta-Glucan, Panthenol and Allantoin are also included which are hydrating and soothing ingredients.

In terms of the scent; this smells like a gel-serum, it’s slightly chemical-y but the smell dissipates once rubbed in. And in terms of the texture; this is the thickest ampoule out of the four and feels closest to a gel-serum instead of a pure water serum. It’s not tacky and doesn’t ball up; but you can feel this has adhered to the skin. So overall; this ampoule really works to soothe and hydrate the skin; it’s compatible for sensitive, dehydrated and even dry skins underneath a moisturiser to boost hydration. Combination skins could also use this as it’s not greasy.

In terms of a dupe; If you would like a more gel-like hydrating serum; then Good Molecules HA Serum and the Ordinary both offer affordable hydrating serums, but they are slightly tackier. I would recommend the Geek and Gorgeous HA 5 Light Serum which is thin as it contains 5 forms of Hyaluronic acid so it doesn’t ball up. If you want to understand that concept then please watch this video. And if you also like thinner textures or have oilier skin’ then The Ordinary’s Marine Hyaluronics serum is also a nice dupe. The K-beauty brand Torriden also offers a 5-Hyaluronic acid, fragrance-free serum.

Now onto the next product which is the Beplain – BHA Peeling Ampoule (Cruelty-Free and Malassezia suitable)

Available at: Stylevana: LINK / iHERB: LINK

and of course contains BHA or Salicylic Acid which not only soothes the skin but decongests pores and reduces the look of blackheads and breakouts. Although the percentage of BHA is undisclosed; I’m guessing it’s at a lower, more gentle amount at 0.5% instead of the EU’s typical 2% (This means it shouldn’t dry the skin out as much). Similar to the Benton BHA Aloe Skin Toner.

Other than Salicylic Acid; this contains Chamomile and Sacharomyces Ferment Filtrate and Green tea which all help to soothe the skin. Hyaluronic acid is also included to help hydrate the skin and counteract any potential drying effect from the BHA.

In terms of the scent; this also has a chemical-y scent to it which dissipates after rubbing in. And the texture of this is very lightweight almost watery and absorbs well.

So overall; this ampoule works to soothe, hydrate and decongest the skin. It is compatible with sensitive skins and oily, oily-combo skins and can be used in the hotter months.

To boost the anti-blemish effects of this ampoule I would recommend included Niacinamide in your routine as it also helps with sebum regulation like One Thing’s Niacinamide Essence Toner or Geek and Gorgeous’s Niacinamide serum, or if your skin doesn’t tolerate niacinamide well, then the BYOMA Clarifying serum which I reviewed here; contains Zinc and PHA (a gentle AHA derivative) to reduce excess sebum without drying the skin.

In terms of a dupe; The Inkey List provide a 2% BHA Serum meant to help fight blackheads and breakouts and reduce pore appearance. Good Molecules also provide a 2% BHA serum called Porefectly clear (my full review is on the blog). Clear Skin Days (which I reviewed in this video) also offer a Clarifying Serum that contains 2% BHA, 2% AHA and 1% Hyaluronic Acid Blemish-clearing gel serum.

Last but not least is the Beplain – Multi Vitamin Ampoule. (Not Malassezia suitable).

Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK / iHerb: LINK

This ampoule aims to brighten the skin, reduce dullness, skin pigmentation and discolouration by using Key brightening ingredients such as Ascorbic acid aka Vitamin C and 2 brightening derivatives; Ascorbyl Glucoside and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid to improve the skins tone. Both Alpha Arbutin and Tranexamic acid are included which effectively brighten the skin and lastly 5% Niacinamide is included which both brightens the skin and improves the skin’s barrier function (as well as reducing congestion and excess sebum).

Beta-glucan, Bisabolol, Allantoin and Panthenol are all also included to hydrate, moisturise and soothe the skin! Sea Buckthorn, Avocado Oil and Hyaluronic Acid are also included to hydrate and moisturise.

This has an almost-herbal scent to it. But it’s not strong and dissipates once rubbed in. The texture is watery and lightweight like the cica ampoule.

So overall, there is a wide range of effective ingredients to brighten the skin and reduce dark spots as well as hydrate the skin.

In terms of Dupes: The new Dear, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Charging Serum has 14 ingredients in common and both products contain hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, vitamin c and vitamin e to brighten the skin, reduce dark spots and improve the skin’s texture.

Furthermore, the new Innisfree Vita C Green Tea Enzyme Dark Spot Toning Serum has similar key ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and most importantly Vitamin C to brighten the skin and reduce fine lines.

For those who want something that is thicker in texture; the Kaine Vita Drop Serum, is also cruelty-free, contains Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C and overall has 15 similar ingredients to help brighten the skin and reduce pore size (and reduce dark spots).

In the review video; you can see a swatch comparison of all the ampoules together from the thinnest to the thickest texture (but they’re all still pretty lightweight!).

So overall; All of these serums are gentle; they haven’t irritated my skin or worsened its condition. I love the thinness of the Cica ampoule; but I have enjoyed the pore-decongesting, gentle BHA ampoule that didn’t dry-out my skin. My favourite has been the Multivitamin Ampoule due to all the effective brightening ingredients included to improve the skin’s tone.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
