Review: A Vegan K-beauty Brand! Introducing KAINE – Swatches + Review

Hello all! Have you heard of the K-Beauty, Vegan Skincare Brand: KAINE?

KAINE stands for ”New” in Greek. This Vegan Skincare brand allegedly produces Vegan products that are in minimalistic packaging with PCR materials like recycled plastic and glass.

Furthermore, KAINE is cruelty-free and donates a % of their products to animal rights organisations.

The products focus on gentle formulations (not hugely acidic / hard-hitting products). So sensitive skins are the target audience when it comes to this brand.

  • I received the Kombu Balancing Ampoule Toner, Vita Drop Serum, and the Vegan Collagen Youth Cream.

This brand is Vegan + Cruelty- Free. These particular products are Fragrance and Essential oil-free.

Of note: Kaine has been certified as vegan cosmetics through EVE Vegan (a French certification body).

If you would like another trio review of Vegan K-beauty products, then I have a revie of 107 Beauty HERE.

Note: KAINE products are available at Yesstyle.com and Stylevana.com

Kombu Balancing Ampoule (Toner)

Volume: 150ml

Price: £14.73 / $17.59

Available at: Yesstyle (LINK) / Stylevana (LINK)

What is it + What does it do?: Contains 60% fermented Kombucha. Scientific Name: Saccharomyces/Xylinum/Black Tea Ferment. Black Tea Ferment is Skin Conditioning (i.e. hydrating and supports the skin.

However Kombucha is thought to provide an Antioxidant Quality and Vitamins to the skin). 1% Panthenol (which is soothing and moisturising) is also added. So this ampoule works to hydrate and soothe the skin (aimed at Sensitive Skins).

With 8 types of Hyaluronic acid added and Allantoin to hydrate and soothe the skin, this ampoule (toner) works to balance the skin’s pH while conditioning it.

Good for: Sensitive + Dehydrated Skins.

Directions + How I use it: Apply with a cotton pad and swipe across the face. This can be used as a ”facial pack”, soaking a cotton pad and then applying onto your trouble area for 5-10 minutes. I simply used this as a toner straight after cleansing, swiping the skin with a cotton pad. It does not take long for this to absorb so I wasn’t waiting too long.

Packaging: Plastic Bottle with a Screw-on Lid (doesn’t click shut). This also came with a Hygiene seal.

Key Ingredients: Cocoa Seed Extract (antioxidant), Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolysed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Hydrolysed Hyaluronic Acid (Hydrating, penetrate into and form a layer on top of the skin).

Soothing – Panthenol (1%), Allantoin + Beta-Glucan (These are also moisturising / hydrating).

Other Hydrating Ingredients: Betaine, Dextrin, Glucose, Sugarcane Extract + Black Tea (Kombucha).

Full Ingredients: Saccharomyces/Xylinum/Black Tea Ferment, Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Glycereth-26, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugarcane) Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Cynanchum Atratum Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Glyceryl Glucoside, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylene Glycol, Tromethamine, Dextrin, Allantoin, Glucose, Beta-Glucan, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Potassium Hyaluronate.

  • So as you can see this contains numerous forms of hyaluronic acid, fermented and soothing ingredients. This is especially hydrating.

Texture:

  • This is not sticky or tacky
  • It simply runs down the hand (watery lightweight texture)
  • Doesn’t take long to absorb
  • I do think Oily Skins and Dehydrated skins would especially appreciate this lightweight, non-oily texture
  • (See below for Video Swatch)

  • Hopefully you can see the lightweight texture of this product.

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see from the above, this is a lightweight toner, and adds some hydration.

Scent: This has a light kombucha (diluted black tea) scent. It’s not off-putting.

Overall + My Experience: A hydrating and soothing toner. I will continue to use this as it layers nicely, and isn’t sticky or tacky. I simply use this as a hydrating toner, it hasn’t changed my skin massively, but it’s nice to apply straight after cleansing, prepping the skin before applying serums. I do think oily skins and dehydrated skins would enjoy the lightweight watery texture of this.

Dupe?: A similar product is the Dr. Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Essence HERE. However, Normal + Dry skins may prefer it.

Vita Drop (Serum)

Volume: 30ml

Price: £15.79 / $18.87

Available at: Yesstyle (LINK) / Stylevana (LINK)

What is it + What does it do?: A brightening Serum containing 3% Niacinamide and 30ppm of the Vitamin C derivative 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid and Ascorbyl Glucoside. With Panthenol and 3 types of hyaluronic acid, this serum works to hydrate, brighten and soothe the skin.

  • Those with Dry and Dull skin would appreciate this serum (cream). However Combination Skins could use this as a lovely lightweight, emollient moisturiser, or under a gel, to add some emollients to the skin.

Directions + How I use it: Apply after toning (pat for absorption). I applied this in the PM before a Gel Cream, to make sure I got some emollients for my oily-combo skin, even in the winter.

Packaging: This is a glass bottle with a plastic pump. The pump is great and makes this easy to use.

The box it came in

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (3%): Anti-Blemish, Brightening and Wrinkle-Improving.

2 Vitamin C Derivatives: 3-O-Ethyl ascorbic Acid (30ppm) + Ascorbyl Glucoside: Antioxidants and Brightening Ingredients.

Coptis Japonica Root Extract + Cacao + Turmeric: Soothing Antioxidants / Hyaluronic Acid + Sodium Hyaluroniate + Hydrolysed Hyaluronic Acid: Hydrating and Moisturising.

Other notable Ingredients: Betaine + Panthenol + Biosaccharide Gum-1: Soothing + Moisturising.

Note: Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract + Oil (73.2% in here); is the main emollient / Oil in this product.

Full Ingredients: Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Propanediol, Water, Glycereth-26, Cetearyl Olivate, Carbomer, Sorbitan Olivate, Tromethamine, Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Panthenol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Trideceth-10, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Dextrin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Ascorbyl Glucoside.

Texture:

  • As you can see, this does cover the hand full of product. The product is liquid so it does bunch up and then slide down the hand (see video swatch below).
  • This is lightweight and hydrating. The nozzle disperses this lightly, and I can cover my face with 3-4 pumps).
  • This does not feel sticky or tacky or greasy (just a watery texture + feeling)
  • This also dries down relatively quickly (quicker than the toner)
Do you see how this covers the hand

No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

  • This does not feel sticky on the skin.

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see from the texture and spray nozzle; this doesn’t attack the skin, but releases an adequate amount of product onto the skin.

Scent: This is Fragrance + EO Free, HOWEVER (I suspect due to the Rose Water), this has a lovely sweet scent to it! It’s not too strong or off-putting. It makes me understand why people would simply use this mist throughout the day to freshen up.

Dupes: Nothing I’ve tried has the same scent as this, however in terms of a Similar Texture + Effect: The Indeed Labs Hydraluron Mist (HERE), or slightly more simple; the Dear Klairs Fundamental Mist.

Overall Effect + Experience: This product did not irritate my skin. I really enjoyed this pleasant fruit (almost vanilla-like) scent. As this is a mist however, it disperses the product over the face, so it’s very lightweight and absorbs quickly, which means 1. It’s not that hydrating or moisturising and 2. if you want to keep covering your face and adding layers, it’ll use up more product than usual. So this has definitely been pleasant to use, but not that necessary for me, when I could simply be applying a more potent serum after my toner. But I will definitely continue to use this/use this up as it does feel refreshing and calming on the skin, and I can apply it on top of makeup.

Vegan Collagen Youth (Cream)

Volume: 50ml

Price: £19.96 / $23.86

Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

What is it + What does it do?: A cream that contains Collagen (Hydrating) and 50% Snow Mushroom to hydrate the skin. Numerous types of Hyaluronic Acid are included to hydrate the skin, and Jojoba oil moisturises it. Overall, this cream works to brighten the skin and improve the look of fine lines with the use of adenosine and niacinamide too.

  • Due to the creamy + emollient nature of this product, Dry Skins may prefer this over oily skins.

Directions + How I use it: Apply at the last step of your skincare routine. I did the same thing. It felt quite thick for my oily-combo skin so I tried to use as few skincare steps as possible to not make this feel too heavy on the skin.

  • Comes in a glass jar with a plastic, screw-top

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Brightening + Blemish-reducing + reduces wrinkles) / Adenosine (Skin-barrier reinforcing) / Cholesterol (Emollient) / Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer + Hydrolysed Hyaluronic Acid + Sodium Hyaluronate (Hydrating) / Panthenol, Beta-Glucan + Liquorice + Allantoin (Soothing).

Other notable Ingredient: Mushroom Extract (Moisturising)

Full Ingredients: Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Glycerin, Water, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Diisostearyl Malate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Pentylene Glycol, Vinyl Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, 1,2-Hexanediol, Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Soluble Collagen, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Panthenol, Boron Nitride, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tromethamine, Adenosine, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Sodium Phytate, Sorbitan Isostearate, Cholesterol, Beta-Glucan, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Potassium Hyaluronate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer.

Note: Mushroom Extract is a moisturising and hydrating ingredient, so it was a good idea to include it into this product. The soluble collagen should be good to moisturise and hydrate the skin, along with numerous forms of Hyaluronic Acid. This contains Jojoba and Seed butter so you can tell this has a creamy texture to it.

Texture:

  • Hopefully you can see how creamy this product looks
  • It is quite thick, and is moisturising
  • It does not have a sticky or tacky finish, but definitely feels moisturising
  • You can see this is definitely moisturising. It does not feel sticky or tacky. It does feel heavy though for my oily-combo skin (even in the winter).

No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

  • This does make the skin feel soft.

Video Swatch:

Scent: Not a heavy scent. This simply smells like a delicate moisturiser.

Dupes?: In terms of the texture, similar products are – The Anua Birch Moisture Cream, The April Skin Artemisia Hydra Gel Cream. However, if you would specifically like a cream with Mushroom Extract, then the I’m From Mushroom Cream is also a good dupe.

Slightly Lighter Version: The Krave Oat So Simple Water Cream (Review) OR The Inkey List Omega Water Cream (Review).

Overall Effect + Experience: A Moisturising cream that although is gentle and moisturising (did not irritate my skin), is too thick for my oily-combo skin. I do however enjoy the addition of skin-brightening, soothing and hydrating ingredients! Dry skins would overall enjoy this more.

Note: I recommend this as a makeup primer as this does not ball up and isn’t sticky or tacky (smooth finish and fills in fine-lines for a smooth makeup application).

Conclusion

These products have been very nice to try as they haven’t irritated my skin or made it worse. In terms of ranking, my favourite product is the ampoule, because it is so lightweight and I’m so happy it doesn’t ball up. However I really like the skin-beneficial and brightening ingredients of the serum the most. The cream I will not continue to use as I find it too thick (but I do like the ingredients).

Note: KAINE products are available at Yesstyle.com and Stylevana.com

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
