Ultra Violette Lip Screens – SPF50+ High Sun-Protection Lip Glosses (Swatches + Review)

Hello all!

I recently purchased some new shades of Ultra Violette’s Sheen Screen Hydrating Lip Balms. And so, here are some swatches + video swatches with a review!

Note: I have swatched + reviewed 2 previous Shades (rose and Peach): HERE

Firstly, why I like SPF Lip Products: I find that applying SPFs on the lips are 1. not a very nice texture and 2. Potentially Drying on the lips. So, why not use hydrating/moisturising lip products instead? I can’t seem to find any SPF50 coloured lip products in the UK, so it’s been really great finding these lip glosses and enjoying the wide shade range! There are plain SPF50+ Lip Balms (Untinted); if you would like to check out my Review of the Blistex SPF50 Lip Balm. There is also the La Roche Posay SPF50+ Anthelios Lip Balm LINK.

Why I like these particular lip products: You get a lot (15g / 15ml) so I shouldn’t be repurchasing anytime soon. These are moisturising, I like the colour pay-off and I like the high SPF protection!

Another Note: I purchased my Ultra Violette Products from Cult Beauty as I live in the UK.

The Brand Describes these as: Hydrating Lip Balms containing Shea + Cacao Seed Butter, providing shine, a flattering tint and high sun protection. They claim this ”glides on like a dream, leaving the lips soft and smooth with a smidge of shine” – Do I agree? Yes. I don’t get a strong scent from this (there is some, this is supposed to have a slight scent from the cocoa butter) and it’s not off-putting.

Full Ingredients: Lanolin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Octocrylene, Beeswax, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Helianthus Annuus Hybrid Oil (Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Aroma, Tocopherol, May Contain +/- Ci 19140, Ci 15850, Ci 77891, Ci 77491, Ci 17200, Ci 45410, Ci 77492, Ci 77499, Ci 42090.

Note: The Lanolin is sustainable. The Sheen Screens are not vegan. But they are Cruelty-Free.

Sunscreen Ingredients 1. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate ”Octinoxate” (UVB) 2. Octocrylene (UVB + UVA II) 3. Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane ”Avobenzone” (UVA)

Texture: These contain many emollients (moisturising + prevent water loss). Such as Lanolin, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Oil, Olive Oil + Castor Seed Oil. So as you can imagine, the texture of these lip glosses are semi-sticky at first, but once rubbing this into the lips; it melts and becomes very shiny.

Please see the Swatch Video Below to look at the level of Stickiness and then smoothness + shine.

Pictured: Ripe, Shimmer, Flamingo and Bite

Price: Individually, these Balms cost £16. The shades: Bite and Ripe came with Dusk in a set (£38).

Note: The shades Flamingo and Shimmer are Individually sold. Bite and Ripe must be bought in the set (My guess is they will be available as single shades next year).

Packaging:

As you can see, this has a slanted tip so it’s easy to apply onto the lips. I personally still like to use my finger and then use the excess to dab onto my cheeks.

Also, at first (when this is full) due to the lanolin etc, this is a little tough to squeeze out product (quite hard) but then it gets easier to use and control.

Swatches + Texture of each Lip Product:

Bite:

This is described as a ”A fresh Berry” shade. It doesn’t appear very dark on the lips (flattering).

Video Swatch:

  • Swatching Bite, you can see the texture of this product (same for the other products). The Lanolin and Beeswax makes this slightly sticky however it also adds to the gloss. The Shea and Cocoa Butters also add additional moisturisation.

Picture Swatch:

As you can see, this has a deep berry tone. Basically a wine-like shade. And you can see the glossy finish to this product. This has the second strongest colour saturation in this lineup.

Ripe:

This is described as ”A Perfect Red” and I would agree! It’s got a lovely cherry shade.

Do you see the glossiness of this product?

Tilting my hand you can see the shine but also how this does have quite a strong colour! Out of all the product shades here, Ripe has the strongest intensity / saturation in colour on the lips (Bite comes after).

Before and After:

Flamingo:

You can understand why this is called Flamingo! This is a ”Fuscia Pink Shine” Shade. I was worried that this would like Bubble-gum hideous on my lips but once again, just like all these shades (except perhaps Shimmer); this blends fine with the lips and creates a nice wearable shade.

Do you see how once this is blended out; it becomes a wearable pink?

Note: You can even use these products as Lip Tints! I dab the excess of these products onto my cheeks to give myself a subtle cheek colour pop! Also, you can use this as a lip topper i.e. On top of a regular lip balm / lipstick, to add a Glossy ‘Pop’ to the lips, and to provide Sun Protection.

Shimmer:

This is described as a ”Colourless Holographic Shine” and I would agree. This doesn’t have a colour and out of all these products, is the closest to a ”Lip Topper”. You can apply this alone (but I must say it has a slight yellow undertone so it can look a little ”icy” on the lips which might not suit every skin tone. So I prefer to apply this ON TOP of a Lip balm (to give that sun protection), or apply on top of the Nude SPF30 Lanolips Lip Balms.

  • I purchased mine from Cult Beauty: LINK

This is the most pearlescent out of all the shades (very pearly!). It doesn’t provide colour but it provides shine/glitter.

This works on its own as a gloss (Think of it as a Dupe for the Laneige Lip Treatment Balm, Youtube Review coming soon).

Texture Swatch Video:

Swatching the Full Lineup (Immediate Application from the Tube):

Hopefully you can see the shine of these products! (Left to Right): Shimmer, Flamingo, Ripe and Bite.

Swatching the Full Lineup (Swiping / rubbing in Product) – It sheers out a bit and becomes glossier.

These sheer-out but they still retain that glossiness. Shimmer is the most pearlescent.

Conclusion: Bite and Ripe are my favourite shades from this lineup, so I’m happy I bought the set! There’s a shade that will suit every skin colour, and I’m also happy that this has buildable coverage, so I can adjust this to how much pigmentation I want on the lips, but the blendability also means that these aren’t extremely obvious and in your face, but compliment the lips. Shimmer is my least favourite as I’m not into a more metallic look/pearlescent lips, BUT it works well as a Topper i.e. on top of a shaded lip product. There is a third shade I own called ”Dusk” which I have yet to swatch, but I’ll save it for when I inevitably purchase the next new round of shades Ultra Violette release!

And of Note: The Vi’s Lip Savers Set I bought I bought from Cult Beauty, came in the Shades: Dusk (Nude), Ripe (Cherry) and Bite (Dark Grape): LINK

Dupes?: It’s hard to find SPF50 Lip Products in the UK, so the closest Dupes are the SPF30 Coloured Lip Glosses/Balms from Lanolips! I have also Swatched + Reviewed those previously HERE. I really like them, and what I will sometimes do is actually apply the Lanolips first (as I like their Nude shades), to give a ”your lips but better” shade, and then apply one of these Sheen Screen Lip Glosses on top to finish it off and make the Lips look Ultra Glossy and Juicy! I currently like the combination of PEACH with Lanolips’s NUDE shade.

Will I repurchase?: Yes! And I hope more companies release more SPF50 Lip Products! I’d love some SPF50 Lip Sticks, and also K-Beauty Tints.
