Bean Cleansing Oil
First up is the Bean Cleansing Oil, which an be used in the AM and PM.
Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Soko Glam: LINK / Coreelle: LINK / Face the Future: LINK
Price: £20.25
Volume: 195ml
Fragrance Free?: No
Fungal-Acne Safe?: No
Vegan + Cruelty-Free?: Yes
EU-Allergen-Free?: Yes
This is a lightweight, moisturising cleansing oil that helps remove waterproof makeup without stripping the skin of its natural oils too much. It does this with ingredients like: Pomegranate Enzyme which is an exfoliant alternative to acid exfoliation [though not as effective as glycolic acid]. It’s obtained via a fermentation process: Fermenting the pomegranate fruit with Lactobacillus lactis and helps soften the skin [nice addition to the skin-softening/emollient oils used].
- The key oils or emollients [Skin-softening ingredients] are: Soybean Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil and Sunflower Oil. This also contains Saccharomyces Barley Seed Ferment Filtrate, which is a moisturising humectant.
How to use: 1. Gently massage 2-3 pumps of product on dry face / 2. Emulsify product by adding a small amount of water and gently massage. / 3. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
This is a lightweight, dry oil that is easy to rub along the skin. When water is added, it emulsifies and is easy to wash off. It doesn’t leave the skin feeling very tight or irritated, which is good. However this contains Fragrance, so this smells like a herbal oil.
In terms of makeup removal [Please see the video demonstration] this is efficient at dissolving even waterproof makeup after massaging the skin, and works best in a double-cleansing routine.
As long as you aren’t sensitive to fragrance, this oil can be used for all skin-types. [Rating: 4/5].
- In terms of an alternative: The Needly Cleansing oil is very similar in terms of texture as it too is a dry oil and is scented.
- If you would prefer an unscented cleansing oil however that is just as effective at removing waterproof makeup, then the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Cleansing Oil is excellent (Review here).
- The Kose Softmyo Speedy Cleansing oil is also a great unscented alternative (Review here).
Centella Cleansing Foam
Next up is the new 2024 version of the Centella Cleansing Foam which should be used second to the cleansing oil in a double-cleansing routine and can be used in the AM and PM depending on how you like to cleanse.
Price: £ 14.58
Volume: 150ml
Fungal-acne safe? No
Fragrance + EO Free?: Yes
EU-Allergen-Free: Yes
Cruelty-Free?: Yes
Alcohol-Free?: Yes
This is a fragrance-free cleansing foam, containing 32.8% Cica Extract which is soothing and moisturising. It also contains Salicylic Acid, a BHA, which gently exfoliates the pores and reduces the look of blackheads [Anti-blemish] and also contains Sea Algae which is hydrating.
This has a pH of 3.0-5.0 to closely match the skin’s natural balance. It means that this foam doesn’t strip the skin too much of its natural oils.
How to use: Lather up product on hands and gently massage on damp skin. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Texture: This has a typical foam cleanser texture, and foams up when water is added, making it easy to massage. This will sting the eyes if not removed properly so make sure to wash this off properly.
In terms of Makeup removal, this isn’t the most effective on its own (please check the Video for a demonstration), it definitely requires an oil-based cleanser first to dissolve the makeup before washing it off effectively with this cleanser. However, this is fine at removing sunblock and regular dirt from the skin on its own.
I’ve enjoyed this cleanser and it’s been fine for my Oily-Combination skin in the summer. I would recommend it more to oilier skins [as this has BHA] as this could potentially dry out Dry skins, especially in the winter.
In terms of an alternative; the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Cleansing Gel is also unscented (Swatches + Review HERE).
- Or, if you have oily skin and like Tea Tree, then the Purito Defence Barrier pH Cleanser (Swatches + Review HERE).
- For Dry skins; I would rather recommend the CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser (Swatches + Review HERE). This doesn’t foam up and is emollient (cream and foaming cleanser for dry skin can put up).
Centella Asiatica Toner

Next up in the skincare routine, we’re moving on to the Toner. Mixsoon offer a variety of single-ingredient toners, but I’m using the Bifida Toner.
Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK
Price: £0.95
Volume: 300ml
Fragrance + EO Free?: Yes
Fungal-acne Suitable?: Yes
Vegan + Cruelty-Free?: Yes
EU-Allergen-Free: Yes
This Toner is quite simple as the Key Ingredient here Bifida Ferment Extract which is a probiotic. [100% Bifida Ferment Extract – created from fermenting the Bifida microorganism]. This ingredient doesn’t have as much research compared to Bifida Ferment Lysate is mainly used for its skin barrier nourishing and hydrating properties.
[How to Use: Take a moderate amount onto the palm of your hand or a cotton pad and apply onto face. Gently tap skin for better absorption].
This is a lightweight, watery toner that isn’t sticky, greasy or tacky. It’s like water and runs down the hand, it doesn’t ball up and can be used in the AM and PM. It’s lightweight texture makes it suitable for Oilier and Combination skin types, and dehydrated skins [Also suitable for sensitive skin].
In terms of an alternative, Although Bifida Ferment Extract is hydrating, Bifida Ferment Lysate has a bit more research on it and is also a probiotic ingredient. It is rich in proteins, lactose and lactic acid to rejuvenate the skin. So, the One Thing Bifida Ferment Lysate Toner is a good alternative
- Additionally, the Neogen Micro Essence isalso a great alternative (Review is HERE).
- The Missha Treatment Essence is also a good dupe (Review is HERE).
Soybean Milk Pad
Next up are the Soybean Milk Pads, which could be used as a toner or a treatment essence after toning.
Price: £12.15
Volume: 30 pads
Fungal-Acne Suitable?: No
Eu-Allergen-Free?: Yes
Fragrance + EO Free?: Yes
Vegan + Cruelty-Free?: Yes
These are pads soaked in serum to hydrate, soothe and condition the skin- reducing redness and irritation.
Each pouch comes with three pads that you can swipe like toner pads, or apply onto the skin like a mask [i.e. cover the cheeks and forehead].
Key ingredients include: Phytosphingosine which is anti-blemish and antioxidative. Houttuynia Cordata, Madecassoside and Cica which are soothing antioxidants. Panthenol is also soothing and Tea Tree Extract which is antibacterial (but could be irritating to some).
This also contains Shea Butter (emollient) as well as Betaine, Ceramide NP and multiple forms of Hyaluronic Acid (Hydrolysed Hyaluronic Acid + Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate) to hydrate and moisturise the skin.
How to use: Gently wipe across the whole face with the product. Apply the pads on face and wait for 10 minutes as mask.
If you see the video, you can see that these pads are full of serum to help moisturise the skin. These pads are also quite large and are not scratchy and feel soft. The packaging is supposed to be more hygienic than using tubs (to avoid using your fingers).
The pads have a pH of 5.0-6.5 which is slightly acidic, to match the skin. It feels cool to the touch when applying. The serum itself is hydrating and not sticky or tacky. It’s milky and lightly emollient and has been suitable even for my Oily-Combination skin.
Good for: Sensitive / Oily / Oily-Combination / Normal and Combination Skin Types.
How to use: You can swipe off excess dirt with one side, and then lay the other side of the pad onto problem areas of the skin, like a sheet mask, and leave on for 10 minutes to let the product absorb [and then pat excess serum into the skin. Apply the remaining serum from the pouch onto the hands and neck].
- In terms of alternatives, the Manyo Bifida Biome Pads have numerous skin-beneficial ingredients, are soft and very large. Swatches + Review HERE.
- However, if you have dry-er skin or want a more milky, emollient texture, then you can use a milky essence either by itself, or soak pads into the essence. For Dry skins, I recommend the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner (Review is HERE).
- Or The Ordinary’s Saccharomyces Ferment Milky Toner (Swatches + Review HERE) is also milky and great for combination skins in the Dry months. This is also Fragrance + EO Free, Vegan + Cruelty-Free.
- For Oilier skins, the I’m From Rice Toner [Fragrance + EO Free. Contains Niacinamide] is also a hydrating, milky alternative (Swatches + Review HERE).
- Or the new HaruHaru Wonder Milky Essence (Fragrance + EO Free and this contains plenty of emollients).
Bifida Ferment Essence
Next up is the Bifida Essence, which is very similar to the toner.
Fragrance + EO Free?: Yes
Fungal-Acne Suitable?: Yes
EU-Allergen Free?: Yes
Vegan + Cruelty-Free: Yes
They key ingredient in here is Bifida Ferment Extract, so you can choose between the toner or the essence [there isn’t a huge need to get both]. This is unscented and also contains Glycerin, a natural moisturiser that also helps thicken the formula, so this is slightly thicker than the verry water toner, but is still lightweight enough for my oily-combination skin to use without drawbacks.
This is basically a hydrating, conditioning essence that is good for both sensitive and dehydrated skins. It’s not sticky or tacky or greasy and absorbs well.
In terms of a dupe, once again, the Neogen Micro Ferment Essence is something I would recommend (contains Bifida Ferment Lysate that has more research and is a bit more effective) Swatches + Review HERE.
- Or, the Isntree Bifida Ampoule if you would like some further skin-beneficial ingredients added (See Review Video below).
- The Ma:nyo Bifida Biome Ampoule I review in this video also contains bifida Extract as well as lysate and other skin-beneficial ingredients. [It’s a good ampoule/serum, please check it out].

Conclusion
Overall, these products have been good to use,
My favourite has been the cleansing foam and I like the pads, although I would have preferred them in a tub (even though I understand the brand uses this as a more hygienic attempt). Those are my two favourites.
The toner and the essence are interchangeable and are fine as basic hydrators that are suitable for sensitive skins the most, but there are better alternatives with more skin-beneficial ingredients added.
The cleansing oil is good at what it does i.e. dissolving makeup but contains fragrance, so it isn’t my favourite.
Please stay tuned for Part II where we will discuss the rest of this skincare routine, including the sunblock.
My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
