Yesstyle Discount Code: CVQFZA

Price: ~£27-£37

Volume: 150ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it + What does it do?: This is an updated (5th remake) of Missha’s Time Revolution Essence. This aims to help with well-ageing, skin brightening and overall improve the skin’s health and appearance.

An SK-II Dupe?: Basically, yes. Like the SK-II essence, this contains Fermented Yeast Extract (Smoothening + helps brighten the skin) – however unlike the SK-II; this is half the price, is unscented and doesn’t contain colourants (however the SK-II feels slightly thicker on the skin).

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types.

What I think: This isn’t thick or moisturising enough for Dry Skins, so Normal / Oily + Combo Skins may prefer this. But if you have dry skin and like to layer a bunch of products then this is just fine! I also think sensitive skins could use this.

Vegan?: Formulated without Animal Products (So I assume yes).

Cruelty Free?: Missha sell in China, so unsure.

How long does it last after opening?: 12 Months

pH: 5.5

Packaging: Glass Bottle with a Screw-top Lid. Feels luxurious, weighty and doesn’t seem to leak.

Directions: Apply after washing the face; pour onto a cotton pad and swipe across the face and then pat into the skin.

How I use it: I use this straight after cleansing. I swipe this with a pad or dab into the skin. It is fast absorbing so helps prep the skin for the next stage of skincare.

Bifida Ferment Lysate?: It helps with sensitive skin: helping to reduce skin barrier disruption and reduce skin sensitivity. This contains 97% Cica Yeast Ferment (That’s what makes this different from the previous formulations).

Yeast Ferment?: Yeast Ferment aka Bifida Ferment Lysate is a Probiotic (The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum also contains this!). It’s supposed to help the skin with DNA damage + DNA repair in the skin (i.e. like Antioxidant benefits).

Other Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-Blemish + Brightening), Adenosine (Skin-barrier reinforcing), Ceramide NP + Sodium PCA (Moisturising). Glycerin (Hydrating + Moisturising).

Why were Ceramides added?

From the Missha Website: Missha.com

The inclusion of Ceramides + Lipids helps carry Active Ingredients into the skin (improves skin penetration and tries to ensure a higher % of the active ingredient actually reaches and is absorbed by the skin).

Full Ingredients: Yeast Ferment Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Diethoxyethyl Succinate, Sodium PCA, Purified Water, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Ceramide NP, Hydrogenated Lecithin

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

Texture: Extremely Watery, lightweight texture. This slides down the hand, absorbs fast and dries down fast. It doesn’t feel sticky or tacky on the skin as this is an essence and sinks right in.

NOTE: This has a really nice cooling effect on the skin when applied. Just tapping it in; you can feel that sort of cooling/refreshing effect.

As you can see this is a lightweight product. It’s hydrating and just feels like water on the skin.

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Yes (due to the inclusion of Niacinamide).

Summer or Winter?: Light enough to be used in the summer. But I do think Oily Skins could use this all year.

Layerable?: Yes.

Video Swatch:

As you can see: this has a watery, lightweight and fast-absorbing texture! A good texture for an Essence.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free – there is no scent to this.

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: 3 Months.

Will I use until Completion?: Yes.

How Long will that take?: Another 3 Months.

The Effect?: Hydrated skin that is prepped for the next step in one’s skincare routine!

NOTE: The brand states that this helps clear the skin, provide protection and moisture. I see where they’re getting at and I would agree that this adds to the skin and does help fortify it. I also think this has helped boost the overall tone of the skin and has helped maintain the skin’s condition. But it should definitely be paired with Ingredients like Retinol / AHA/BHA, and not solely relied on for skin clarity or brightness. It’s a good addition to one’s routine but not a sole solution.

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Lightweight
  • Hydrating
  • Fast-absorbing
  • Didn’t irritate / worsen my skin
  • Has a really nice cooling feeling when applied onto the skin
  • Skin-beneficial ingredients

What I don’t like:

  • No huge noticeable changes / differences (but helped provide a maintenance for sure)
  • Not very moisturising

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4(almost a 3.9)/5 – A nice addition to one’s skincare routine! No stinging or irritation and it didn’t worsen the condition of the skin. I do think Oily Skins > Dry Skins, but Sensitive Skins could use this too. The texture isn’t unbelievable or luxurious on the skin (however it does provide a cooling effect to the skin), but the overall skin-boosting effect is decent; hence why I’d say this is a good addition and not a necessity. If you are into Yeast Ferment products, this could be a good one, as Missha have worked to try and keep the efficacy of the active ingredients in here and make sure it penetrates as much as it can into the skin, so you don’t waste your money. So overall, this will help maintain or improve the skin’s condition.

Dupe?: I think a good dupe (if not slightly better); is the Neogen Ferment Essence.

Would I repurchase?: Yes I would repurchase. However, if I had to choose between the Neogen Essence or this; I think I would go for the Neogen Essence (Slightly thicker texture + good effect).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
