Price: ~£19.99 / $25.45

Volume: 50ml

Made in: Germany

What is it?: An SPF50+ UVA / UVB, High-sun protection Fluid. This is a Chemical (Organic) sunblock.

What makes this special/different?: This contains Niacinamide and LHA which, along with the photoprotection of the UV filters, helps reduce the look of dark spots and pigmentation (brightens the skin).

Aims to: Protect the skin from Photoageing + Reduce the look of Age spots / Sun spots / Hormonal Spots / Post-acne marks + Reduce fine lines + Improve the skin’s tone.

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types.

What I think: Due to the finish – I think Oily and Combination + Normal Skin types may prefer this over dryer skins.

NOTE: I have reviewed the previous L’Oreal SPF – Vitamin C SPF50+ HERE

Vegan?: No.

Cruelty Free?: L’Oreal still sell in China.

How long does it last after opening?: 12 Months.

Packaging: Plastic bottle with a cap that clicks into place so you know it’s closed. You squeeze it to get product out. The tip isn’t messy and doesn’t seem to leak. All of this is recyclable.

Directions: ”Shake well before application. Every morning, apply evenly as a moisturiser or after your skincare routine and before makeup. Can be applied on the eyelids and around the eyes” (From the Website HERE).

How I use it: I apply this in the daytime before working out. As this is a small-ish bottle, I do not apply this onto the ears and neck (I currently use the Scinic Sunblock (Review) instead for that), and I only apply this onto the face. If it is bright and sunny, I will apply two layers of this, as this is quite thin (to ensure even coverage).

Does this emulsify / turn milky when sweating?: No. But, if I wipe my face with a black towel (or a black sleeve), I will see white on the towel (due to the slightly powdery finish of this product).

Does this sting the eyes? Especially after sweating?: I have worn this even to an intense dance class and this still did not sting my eyes.

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Brightening + Sebum-regulating) / Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (aka LHA – an Exfoliating AHA that does not make the skin sensitive to the sun. It helps reduce excess blackheads, thereby helping to reduce excess sebum. Note: L’Oreal state that the pairing of Vitamin E and LHA are a combo that help reduce and reverse dark spot production).

Other notable Key ingredients: Adenosine (wound healing, anti-inflammatory and barrier protection) / Matrixyl 3000 (Consists of Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 + Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7) – This Peptide duo help reduce fine lines and wrinkles / Hyaluronic acid (Hydrating) / Tocopherol (Vitamin E – Antioxidant).

UV Filters: Ethylhexyl Salicylate (Octisalate – UVB), Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S – UVA + UVB), Ethylhexyl Triazone (Uvinul T 150 – UVB), Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (Avobenzone – UVA), Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid (Ensulizole – UVB), Drometrizole Trisiloxane (Mexoryl XL – UVA + UVB).

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

  • This contains Denatured Alcohol to ensure 1. Fast absorption and 2. A lightweight texture. However, it can feel potentially drying (especially to dehydration-prone and very dry skins).

Texture: This is a liquid cream. It will slide down the hand slowly if I tilt it. It does not run down the face when applying (not messy). This is fast absorbing and doesn’t remain white on the face. It’s easy to rub in, but once it starts absorbing, it’s hard to move product and will ”lock in” to the skin and provide a slight powdery-texture on top of the skin (to help prevent movement).

This does feel lightly moisturising for oily skins (I don’t think dry skins would use this as a moisturiser for instance, whereas I can wear only this before my workouts – oily-combination skin). This does not feel heavy and my skin can breathe. This doesn’t totally disappear into this skin like an even more liquid-y sunblock (Like the Missha Aqua Sun Gel for instance), but this is still comfortable and lightweight enough).

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: Not once this has absorbed. HOWEVER I will say that this doesn’t long-term mattify the skin.

Balls up?: No (Unless you scratch your skin with your nails (or rub very hard purposefully), product may ball up under your nails. But I don’t get balling up even when re-applying).

  • As you can see, this is initially an opaque liquid-cream. It’s slightly more viscous (heavier) than other fluid sunblocks, but this is still fluid.

This does have a slight moisturising/hydrating quality to it (not like a cream however).

Lightweight and easy to spread.

Product (Left) vs No Product (Right)

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Yes.

Summer or Winter?: This isn’t extremely mattifying (i.e. doesn’t keep the skin oil-free all day), however I don’t look greasy when wearing this (even when working out). So Oily Skins could enjoy this all-year round, especially during the Winter and Dry months. Dry Skins could enjoy this in the Summer (but this isn’t wildly moisturising/hydrating for dry and very dry skins).

Layerable?: Yes. If you rubbed the skin VERY hard then this might end up balling up.

White Cast?: NO. There is no white cast on my Warm-Golden Skin Tone.

You can see there is a mild shine on the skin (i.e. you can see there is product on the hand) – but it does not make me look greasy or oily (even when I’m working out)

Hopefully you can see, as this is called ‘Bright Reveal‘ – the company intends to leave the skin with a slight glow and not a fully mattifying finish. That being said, this doesn’t make my oily-combination look particularly oily and greasy (in the Dry UK Weather).

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, this is a lightweight, liquid-type cream Sunblock that isn’t sticky or tacky. It doesn’t completely disappear fully into the skin i.e you can see where the product is on the hand, but it doesn’t look very shiny or greasy. It has a light-velvet finish that doesn’t ball up.

Fragrance?: This contains Fragrance (Quite a mild scent).

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: 2-3 Months.

Will I use until Completion?: Yes.

How Long will that take?: ~2 Months (I use this daily).

The Effect?: Initially: The skin feels lightly moisturised and a little more glowy. Long-term; I do not doubt that the Niacinamide and LHA in here has been helping improve the overall tone of my skin.

What I like:

  • No White Cast
  • Lightweight (The skin can breathe)
  • Enjoy the inclusion of LHA and Niacinamide, Adenosine, Matrixyl 3000 and Adenosine (All skin-beneficial ingredients)
  • Did not ball up for me
  • Not sticky or Tacky
  • Did not sting my eyes
  • Did not make me look greasy during my workouts

What I don’t like:

  • This can sting the skin if it is sensitised (uncomfortable)
  • Alcohol (can be potentially drying to dry and dehydrated skins. But Alcohol does keep this product lightweight and non-greasy)
  • Fragrance (although it is mild)
  • Doesn’t prevent oil throughout the day (Oily skins may find they’re shiny after hours of wearing this)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4.3 (nearly 4.4)/5 – Really nice, lightweight sunblock! It suits Oily-Combination Skin the best. Yes, if I scratch my skin deeply with my nail or rub really hard, this will ball up, and this does contain fragrance (not a strong scent however) and alcohol (in order to absorb quickly, dry-down and maintain a thin texture), However, this does not provide me with a white cast, it’s comfortable and lightweight to wear (albeit this does sting if the skin is irritated/sensitised, i.e. by overt Retinol use). I appreciate that this doesn’t make me look really oily or greasy, even when working out. I appreciate the addition of skin-beneficial ingredients and have enjoyed it’s effects so far on the skin (slight improvement and maintenance of the skin’s tone).

Would I repurchase?: Yes.

Dupe?: The L’Oreal – Revitalift Anti UV Fluid SPF50+ is definitely the most similar, especially in terms of texture and finish (Swatches + Review HERE)

How do these two differ?: Both have similar formulas, except the Revitalift Fluid contains a Vitamin C Derivative (an added Antioxidant and skin-brightener). Whereas the Bright Reveal Dark Spot Fluid contains Matrixyl 3000, LHA and Niacinamide.

Which version do I prefer?: I would use both easily, but the Dark Spot UV Fluid contains slightly more skin-beneficial ingredients so I would choose that over the Anti-UV Fluid. However the Anti-UV Fluid stung my irritated skin much less (may be more suitable to more sensitive skins).

  • The Garnier – Anti-Dark Spots Super UV Sun Fluid SPF50+ UVA / UVB (Swatches + Review HERE) is a wonderful liquid SPF that is lightweight (albeit slightly grainier).

Available at: Look Fantastic: LINK / Boots: LINK

  • The Vichy – Uv-Age Daily Sun Fluid SPF50+ PA++++ (Swatches + Review HERE) is also a liquid SPF that feels very elegant on the skin (albeit slightly more expensive).

Available at: Look Fantastic: LINK / Fact the Future: LINK

  • The Garnier – Invisible Serum Super UV – Sun Fluid SPF50+ – Swatches + Review HERE is also lightweight (perhaps the thickest in this lineup but still thin). It is the most moisturising.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
