Directions: ”Apply a moderate amount evenly over the face and pat lightly for better absorption.” (From the Website).

How I use it: As this contains AHA, I use this in the evening (as a night-time moisturiser). I apply this at the end of my routine and also apply this on the neck. I do NOT use this with Copper Peptides (Like my CAIS serum) or Retinol / Ascorbic Acid Serums.

Key Ingredients: 8,000ppm Betaine Salicylate (Hydrating and Exfoliating + reduces excess sebum) Glycolic Acid (Skin Resurfacing, helps fade blemish marks and dark marks).

Other Key Ingredients: Jojoba Seed Oil (Emollient) / Aloe Extract (Soothing and Moisturising) / Liquorice (Soothing) / Panthenol (Hydrating and Soothing) / Hyaluronic Acid (Hydrating) / Cica (Hydrating antioxidant) / Allantoin (Soothing).

Why Betaine Salicylate?: Betaine Salicylate (a mix of Salicylic acid + Betaine, a moisturiser) is a hydrating version of Salicylic Acid (both exfoliate pores), and is slightly gentler / weaker.

Full Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycolic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Pentylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Beeswax, PEG-100 Stearate, Potassium Hydroxide, Cyclohexasiloxane, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Dimethicone, Betaine Salicylate, Stearyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Myristyl Alcohol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Lauryl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Propanediol, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Bioflavonoids, 1,2-Hexanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Ethyl Hexanediol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Xanthan Gum, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Allantoin, Panthenol

Texture: The brand states that this has a soft, creamy texture that glides onto and is swiftly absorbed into the skin. I would agree. This has a light, whipped texture (due to the mild inclusion of silicone) which means this doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, spreads far and luckily, doesn’t ball up. This also feels instantly hydrating and moisturising when applying.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: No (this doesn’t feel like an oil on the skin).

Balls up?: No

  • As you can see, this is a lightweight, opaque cream. I hope you can see this has a combination of a lightweight, silicone-ish cream that is also hydrating.

Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

  • Hopefully you can see that this doesn’t look extremely shiny on the skin.

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Yes (As this is acidic. I would not recommend using this if the skin is irritated).

Summer or Winter?: My Oily-Combo Skin could use this in the Summer Evenings, so Dry Skins could use this both seasons.

Layerable?: Yes.

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, this has a lightweight, ”whipped” cream texture to it. It has a slightly silicone-base to it, and is easy to spread along the skin. It doesn’t look too shiny/greasy on the skin either, and doesn’t look sticky.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free (This does smell ”acidic” i.e. it smells like Glycolic Acid/Vinegar).

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: 3-4 Months.

Will I use until Completion?: Yes.

How Long will that take?: ~1-2 Months (I don’t use this everyday).

The Effect?: Initially: Moisturised and Hydrated skin. Long-Term: Skin that looks clearer, has a smoother texture and I find that pimples disappear quicker.

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Lightweight
  • Hydrating / Moisturising
  • Didn’t ruin my skin (I space out uses)
  • Reduced the frequency of breakouts (and recovery of pimples)
  • Helps make the skin look ”clear-er”

What I don’t like:

  • Although this is unscented, this has an ”acidic” scent to it i.e. Vinegar/Glycolic Acid
  • Will sting / irritate the skin if the skin is sensitised

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 – I really have enjoyed the effects of this cream as it’s not too overpowering and hasn’t sensitised my skin. I think it’s a great ”maintenance” cream that has helped keep my skin looking smoother and less congested, while not drying out the skin. (If you read the aims of this product at the top- I think this cream has helped with all of those things). I enjoy the lightweight texture and my oily-combo skin has been able to use this. I would recommend this more to Blemish-Prone Skins and Congested Skins who want to use an exfoliating product without drying out the skin (as this contains Betaine Salicylate instead of Salicylic acid).

Would I repurchase?: Yes.

Dupe?: The Beauty Bay 2% Salicylic Acid & Azelaic Acid Overnight Mask is also an exfoliating cream that instead of Glycolic acid (a little stronger), uses Azelaic acid to smooth out the skin and Azelaic acid also helps reduce redness. This is also Fragrance + EO Free.

  • The Clear Skin Days Mattifying Barrier Moisturiser (Swatches = Review HERE), contains Salicylic acid and Niacinamide (so a little weaker than the Badecasil cream and the Beauty Bay Cream) to focus more on excess sebum, acne and breakouts.

Available at: Holland and Barrett: LINK

  • If you just want a similar texture, then the Glossier Priming Moisturiser (Swatches + Review HERE) has a very similar ”whipped” cream texture that doesn’t ball up and feels lightweight.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
