Hello all! – Revolution Skin released and sent me their new Plex Skin range which is Vegan and Cruelty-Free. It includes their Plex Bond Skin Restoring Serum, Barrier Protect Day Cream, Barrier Recovery Night Cream and Barrier Protecting Lip Cream.
What makes the Plex range different?: This range aims to protect and support the skin’s barrier daily. It aims to leave the skin hydrated, protected and plump. It was created with Dry skin and Barrier-compromised skin in mind, however there’s at least 1 product in here that I think Combination and Oily-Combination Skins could easily use.
The Key ingredients in all of these products is Oat Protein (Soothing and contains Glutamine which aids in Skin-barrier repair), as well as Hyaluronic Acid (forms a breathable, hydrating layer on the skin to lock-in moisture) and Oat Kernel Oil (Emollient that promotes skin moisturisation.
So overall. this range works to protect, repair and keep the skin’s uppermost layer resilient against irritators (i.e. pollution).

Skin Restoring – Serum

What is it: A hydrating/moisturising serum with barrier-restoring and protective ingredients (e.g like Oat protein).
- This serum forms a film on top of the skin to produce a light and breathable layer on top of the skin (Polluprotect™) to protect it and prevent water-loss.
Directions: ”Apply onto cleansed skin in the AM and PM and follow with a cream.”
Vegan?: Yes.
Cruelty-Free?: Yes.
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-blemish, Antioxidant and Brightening) / Hyaluronic acid and Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer (Hydrating Humectants) / Lactic Acid (Exfoliant) / Betaine + Biosaccharide Gum-1 (Soothing and Moisturising).
Ingredients: AQUA (WATER, EAU), SHOREA STENOPTERA SEED BUTTER, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, DICAPRYLYL CARBONATE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, NIACINAMIDE, BIFIDA FERMENT LYSATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, BETAINE, DISODIUM EDTA, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, HYDROLYZED OAT PROTEIN, ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE, POLYSORBATE 60, SORBITAN ISOSTEARATE, SODIUM HYALURONATE, BIOSACCHARIDE GUM-1, HYDROLYZED ADANSONIA DIGITATA SEED EXTRACT, SODIUM BENZOATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, PVP, GLUCOMANNAN, SCHIZOPHYLLAN, SODIUM HYALURONATE CROSSPOLYMER, BENZYL ALCOHOL, ACETIC ACID, LACTIC ACID, TOCOPHEROL, POTASSIUM SORBATE.
Fragrance Free?: Yes, This is Fragrance + EO Free.
Packaging: Glass bottle with a dropper.
Swatches:
Texture: This is a milky liquid. It’s not very thick (it runs down the hand) and sinks into the skin while leaving a layer on top that’s hydrating. This is a less sticky version of the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner (see dupes below).
Is this sticky?: No.
Is this greasy?: It’s almost greasy. I would not call this greasy however. The milky ingredients in here simply make this proudct moisturising and extra hydrating, without feeling like oil (see video swatch below), but this does have a dewy finish.
This definitely feels both hydrating and moisturising (moreso hydrating) on the skin. It doesn’t feel like a liquid cream and is moreso a lightweight, liquid serum that is milky. It spreads far but also absorbs quite quickly into the skin and doesn’t ball up or layer weirdly.
Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)
As you can see this has a sleek, milky texture that provides the skin with hydration and moisture but also does look slightly dewy on the skin.
Video Swatch:
Pros:
- Fragrance + EO Free
- Lightweight
- Hydrating
- Doesn’t ball up
Cons:
- I wouldn’t wear this under makeup
- Almost greasy
My Review + Experience: Overall this has been very pleasant to use. I have Oily-Combination skin and yet I have been able to use this product even in the warmer months. I appreciate that it’s not really oily on the skin and provides lightweight hydration without being sticky or balling up. This has also been great to wear when the skin is irritated/ sensitised and so I would recommend it to sensitive skins.
Dupes: The SKIN&LAB – Barrierderm Milky Serum is very similar in consistency and texture and both products work for sensitive skins and both are not sticky, tacky or ball up.
Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / CORÉELLE: LINK
- The Purito – Oat-in Silky Skin Toner is another watery, milky product whose main ingredient is oat extract to soothe irritated skin. This is hydrating and does not feel greasy and doesn’t ball up.

Barrier Protect – Day Cream
Available at -Revolution Skin: LINK
Price: £10
Volume: 50ml
What is it: This is a buttery (contains capuacu butter and oat seed oil) moisturiser containing hydrolysed Oat Protein and Polluprotect™ (forms a film on top of the skin to prevent environmental aggressors from entering the skin and reducing trans epidermal water loss). This cream works to soften dry skin.
Directions: ”Use in the AM after applying serums. Apply this cream onto the face and neck.”
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-blemish + Brightening + Antioxidative) / Hyaluronic Acid + Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer + Polyglycerin-6, Glucomannan + Schizophylla (Moisturising / Hydrating)
Full Ingredients: AQUA (WATER, EAU), CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, CETYL ALCOHOL, SHOREA STENOPTERA SEED BUTTER, POLYGLYCERYL-2 SESQUIOLEATE, MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED BUTTER, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, PRUNUS ARMENIACA (APRICOT) KERNEL OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, THEOBROMA GRANDIFLORUM SEED BUTTER, SUCROSE STEARATE, GOSSYPIUM HERBACEUM (COTTON) SEED OIL, SODIUM ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, AVENA SATIVA (OAT) KERNEL OIL, C15-19 ALKANE, STEARYL ALCOHOL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, HYDROLYZED OAT PROTEIN, NIACINAMIDE, ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE, POLYSORBATE 60, SORBITAN ISOSTEARATE, TOCOPHEROL, POLYGLYCERYL-6 LAURATE, SODIUM HYALURONATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, POLYGLYCERIN-6, PVP, GLUCOMANNAN, SCHIZOPHYLLAN, SODIUM HYALURONATE CROSSPOLYMER, DISODIUM EDTA.
Contains Fragrance?: No. Fragrance + EO Free.
Texture: This has a typical cream texture; it’s not too watery or hydrating and focuses more on emollients and moisturisation. It takes a while to absorb into the skin and would be a good makeup primer because it fills in those fine lines and doesn’t ball up and isn’t too oily or greasy, but it is a cream that is suitable to Normal-Dry Skins above Oily Skins. It’s like a heavier version of the Glossier Priming Moisturiser (Swatches + Review HERE).
The packaging: Is very good, it’s sturdy, has a pump-mechanism and a cap. This also has a hygiene tab which you can keep in the product to avoid any spillage.
As you can see, this is a creamy moisturiser. It’s not water-based and doesn’t run down the hand. It does soften the skin but also does feel slightly heavy on the skin.
Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)
Video Swatch:
Pros:
- Fragrance + EO Free
- Moisturising
- Good makeup Primer (particularly for Normal and Dr Skins)
- Doesn’t ball up
- Good, sturdy packaging
Cons:
- Quite thick for my oily-combo skin (a little uncomfortable)
My Review and Experience: So overall this product didn’t irritate or worsen my skin’s condition, but it did feel too thick for my Oily-combo skin. It’s unscented, so I could recommend this to Dry, Normal and Sensitive Skins.
Dupe: The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturising Factors + HA Cream is similar in texture. However this is slightly more lightweight as it contains a bit more silicone. But it is still slightly too thick for my Oily-Combo skin.
Available at: The Ordinary: LINK / Cult Beauty: LINK / Beauty Bay: LINK
- Indeed Labs Cream (Swatches + Review HERE) is creamier and closer in texture to this Day Cream. It is however slightly more wearable.
Available at: Ulta: LINK / Look Fantastic: LINK

To be honest, I think this range is very similar to Indeed Laboratories Range. So if you would like to see the textures and swatches of that brand, then watch my Youtube Review below:
Barrier Recovery – Night Cream
Available at: Revolution Skin LINK
Price: £6.65
Volume: 50ml
What is it and what does it do?: A deeply nourishing Moisturiser containing Oat Kernel Oil and Bisabolol to Moisturise and soothe the skin, to help restore and reinforce the skin overnight.
Directions: ”Use in the PM after applying serums (apply this to the face and neck).”
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-blemish, Brightening and Antioxidant) / Glycerin (Barrier-reinforcing) / Bisabolol (Soothing).
Ingredients: AQUA (WATER, EAU), GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, STEARIC ACID, POLYGLYCERYL-2 SESQUIOLEATE, HEXYLDECANOL, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CETETH-2, THEOBROMA GRANDIFLORUM SEED BUTTER, GOSSYPIUM HERBACEUM (COTTON) SEED OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, TRIDECYL COCOATE, CETEARETH-25, XANTHAN GUM, AVENA SATIVA (OAT) KERNEL OIL, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, BISABOLOL, CETYLHYDROXYPROLINE PALMITAMIDE, HYDROLYSED OAT PROTEIN, NIACINAMIDE, ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE, BRASSICA CAMPESTRIS (RAPESEED) STEROLS, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, PVP, DISODIUM EDTA, ALPHA-ISOMETHYL IONONE, BENZYL SALICYLATE, CITRONELLOL, GERANIOL, HEXYL CINNAMAL, HYDROXYCITRONELLAL, LIMONENE, LINALOOL.
Contains Fragrance?: Yes; the fragrant ingredients are: Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Parfum (Fragrance), Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.
Packaging: Like the Day Cream; this has very good, sturdy and easy-to-travel with packaging. It comes with a little nib you can slide into the hole for extra protection against spillage (and has a cap to stop accidental pumps from happening).
Texture:
This is a thick and creamy moisturiser. The idea is to use a thick cream for overnight, to really hold in that moisture, really prevent trans epidermal loss overnight and really overload the skin with oils and moisturising emollients so you can wake up to softened skin.
Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

Video Swatch:
Pros:
- Moisturising
- Great, sturdy packaging
- Doesn’t ball up
- Not sticky
Cons:
- Contains Fragrance (And a lot of it, heavily scented)
- Thick / heavy cream that almost feels unbreathable (for my Oily-Combination Skin
My Experience / Review: This wasn’t fun for me to trial as it was very thick for me and left that sort of white finish you can see from the swatch pictures, on the skin. I also didn’t enjoy the fragrance. I definitely recommend this to Dry skins and also if you are not sensitive to fragrance.
Dupe: The Indeed Labs in-Circadian Night Mask (My Review HERE) is also just as thick and is a Night Cream.
Available at: Look Fantastic LINK / Ulta: LINK
- Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask (Swatches + Review HERE) is soothing (with the use of Cica) and is also just as thick and is a sleeping mask (A Night Cream).
Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Sephora: LINK / Stylevana: LINK
Barrier Protecting – Lip Cream
Available at: Revolution Skin LINK
Price: £6
Volume: 15ml
What is this?: A cream-to-oil (allegedly) Lip Cream that forms a creamy barrier on the lips (yes, it’s definitely cream) to lock in moisture via Squalane, Shea Butter and Panthenol.
Directions: ”Can be applied both in the AM and PM Squeeze onto the finger tips and swipe along the lips.”
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-blemish, Brightening and Antioxidative) / Squalane (Emollient, skin-barrier reinforcing) / Allantoin + Panthenol (Soothing).
Full Ingredients: AQUA (WATER, EAU), BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, RICINUS COMMUNIS (CASTOR) SEED OIL, HYDROGENATED ETHYLHEXYL OLIVATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, THEOBROMA CACAO (COCOA) SEED BUTTER, GLYCERYL ROSINATE, SQUALANE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED BUTTER, PEG-100 STEARATE, NIACINAMIDE, GLYCERYL STEARATE SE, HYDROGENATED OLIVE OIL UNSAPONIFIABLES, CETYL STEARATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, ISOSTEARYL ISOSTEARATE, POTASSIUM CETYL PHOSPHATE, CETYL ALCOHOL, AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER, PANTHENOL, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) OIL UNSAPONIFIABLES, HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, ALLANTOIN, CERA CARNAUBA (COPERNICIA CERIFERA [CARNAUBA] WAX, CIRE DE CARNAUBA), ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, DISODIUM EDTA, TOCOPHEROL, STEARIC ACID, PANTOLACTONE.
Fragrance Free?: Yes, Fragrance + EO Free.
Do you see how this product sort of stiffly comes out in tact? It keeps its shape/form.
Texture:
As you can see, this is a cream and has a little bit of a rough texture (which is why this product is quite stiff to apply onto the skin). It does melt into the skin but I don’t think it feels like an oil or like vaseline, it feels more lip a lip cream on the lips.
Video Swatch:
Pros
- Fragrance + EO Free
- Moisturising
Cons
- Quite a ‘stiff’ lip balm (doesn’t feel luxurious to apply and doesn’t become really buttery on the lips (i.e. not the softest, smoothest texture), and this feels like a cream on the lips (doesn’t feel like an oil to me)
My Experience and Review: This is quite a stiff lip product and when applying this on the lips; it doesn’t beautifully melt into a oily/greasy lip balm, it melts into a cream (as if I’ve applied a cream onto the lips). I could imagine this is very good for those with very chapped, sensitive lips that desperately need a barrier formed on the lips to prevent trans-epidermal water loss.
Dupes: The Avene Cicalfate Restorative Lip Cream is very similar. It is slightly less stiff and melts a bit more easily on the lips; but both are reparative lip creams (Swatches + Review HERE).
Available at: Ulta: LINK / Look Fantastic: LINK
- The Pixi Botanical Collagen LipGloss isn’t a cream, but I recommend this moisturising lip product that does turn into a sort of lip gloss that ISN’T STICKY OR TACKY (I’ve almost finished my Tube).
Available at Pixi Beauty: LINK / Cult Beauty: LINK
Conclusion
While the Day Cream and the Night Cream are too thick and heavy for my Oily-Combination skin; I’m sure if I had dry skin, I would enjoy the Day Cream (I would not select the Night cream as it is scented). So I would recommend the Day Cream to Dry Skins and Very Dry Skins (and Sensitive Skins).
I would recommend the Day cream, the Serum and the Lip Cream to Sensitive Skins (as the Night Cream contains a lot of Fragrances). However I wouldn’t recommend the Lip Cream if you don’t like the feeling of a cream on your lips.
So Overall; the Serum is my favourite; it suits my Oily-Combination skin the best, I’ve really enjoyed it for when the skin is irritated / sensitised, and the fact that it isn’t sticky or tacky is great.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
