What is it?: An Essence/Toner/Lotion that ”Preps” the skin for the addition of a moisturiser / serum.

Brand Description: A Soothing Liquid that ”Instantly” Hydrates dry, sensitive skin to relieve tightness + lock in moisture.

Do I agree?: I think this does a decent job to ”start” the process of hydration on the skin. I think Oily + Dry Skins should be included in the description. This is a good, lightweight skin prepper that provides light hydration/moisturisation (not a thick product), to get the skin ready for the next step in skincare. I do often swipe my face with a cotton pad using this, and I like to do so with watery textures (less slip), so this does a good job!

Supposedly Good for: Dry, Sensitive Skin

What I think: All Skin Types. Oily and Oily-Combo would still find this comfortable to wear as it’s just like water. Even those in hot + humid weather. I think Dry Skins wouldn’t find this thick or moisturising/hydrating enough however this is meant to be applied under thicker products.

Vegan?: No

Cruelty Free?: Yes

Packaging: Plastic Bottle with a Cap that ‘clicks’ to know you’ve secured it. Also has a pump. I love the packaging, it’s sturdy, it looks nice and I like see-through bottles so I can see how much product I have left. I enjoy that this comes in pump packaging too (easy to dispense).

Directions: After cleansing and drying, pump 5-6 pumps of product onto the hand and apply over the face + neck, followed by a serum or moisturiser.

How I use it: I use this sometimes as a toner or an essence (straight after a toner). As a toner, I apply this (3-4 pumps) onto a cotton pad and swipe the face to remove any excess dirt OR after toning, I then apply 2-3 pumps, applying with the fingers.

Key Ingredients: Glycerin + Arginine (Skin Identical/ Skin-barrier reinforcing). Allantoin (Soothing). Also contains Hydrogenated (broken up) Castor Oil (which is what I think gives this that yellow-ish tint). To provide some of the emollients. This also contains Betaine + Butylene Glycol to Moisturise/Hydrate the Skin.

Full Ingredients: Water/Aqua, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Betaine, Methyl Gluceth-20, PEG-32, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Allantoin, Succinic Acid, Arginine, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract, Methylparaben

Texture: Very watery, lightweight texture. Very similar texture to the Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner, except not drying, AND the finish is very different (this has a soft/smooth finish). The liquid itself has the same colour as the SK-II Treatment Essence (without the colourants).

This is not sticky or tacky and is layerable. It absorbs quick into the skin (as this is a skin-prepper/skincare starter product).

You can see this looks watery + lightweight.

Easy to spread along the skin, and this takes little time to start absorbing into the skin once spread out. It also provides the skin with a very nice smooth, soft finish.

This does feel refreshing on the skin. It’s the same sensation I could imagine plants have when being watered. It does make the skin feel soft and hydrated (even though this isn’t intensely hydrating like the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus – Review HERE).

Fragrance?: To me, this smells very faintly of the Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner.

Good Under Makeup?: Yes it’s fine 🙂

How long have I been using this?: I’m halfway and that took me 3 months to get to of almost daily PM use.

The Effect?: Relatively Hydrates skin that’s prepped for serums/creams etc. It leaves the skin with a nice soft finish.

What I like:

  • Love the packaging (sturdy + travel friendly).
  • No added fragrance / Essential oils
  • Lightweight
  • Layerable
  • Didn’t sting or irritate my skin
  • Has a nice finish and makes the skin feel soft/smooth (makes the skin feel soft. I think this is from the Hydrogenated Castor Oil + Glycerin).

What I don’t like:

  • Not ridiculously Hydrating / Moisturising compared to a thicker toner (hence why I think Oily/Combo skins can use and not feel too stuffy).
  • Little weight to it (some people prefer more viscosity/thickness to a toner/essence/lotion (I think if you want something thicker, then the Pyunkang Yul Essence toner is great, Review HERE.

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 – This is a lovely, watery, skin-prepping product! I like the smooth, soft finish it gives to the skin. It isn’t ridiculously hydrating/moisturising, but it’s definitely better than the Muji Toners (is slightly thicker than them). I think all skin types could use this. I have Oily-Combo skin and I don’t find this too thick or stuffy. I do wonder if dry skins would prefer something thicker like the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner HERE) or the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus. This doesn’t smell offensive, it layers nicely under skin products and I like the packaging!

Would I repurchase?: If I want a toner/essence hybrid that also provides the skin with a smooth/soft finish, I would!

Dupe?: In terms of texture this is similar to the Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner BUT that is intended for oily skins (loaded with tannins etc). The Muji Toners are very watery, lightweight and basic (HERE). But I think that this product is actually a dupe for the Muji Toners because it provides the skin with a soft finish and doesn’t feel like it does absolutely nothing to the skin, I can feel like it has ”prepped” the skin.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
