Review: Dear Klairs Deep Cleansing Oil

Where to purchase: From Yesstyle HERE

Price: £19.78

Volume: 150ml

Made in: South Korea

Description: A cleansing oil ‘rich in minerals and vitamins’ Supposed to remove makeup and spf.

Good for: all skin types (except – It’s claimed that this product is even great for sensitive skin – Not too sure if you are sensitive to fragrance / essential oils). Also easily-clogged skin, I’m not sure would enjoy this.

Directions: apply onto the palms, massage into the skin in a round notion and then rinse with water.

NOTE: It’s suggested that to be more effective, use a cleansing foam after using this cleanser – which I would agree with i.e. using a different cleanser after using this specific one to improve the effectiveness of makeup removal.

How I use: I do 2 cleanses with this – I wash with this oil first, then dab my face with a towel (to get the mascara/eyeliner, some of it off), then a second cleanse with this, focusing around rubbing around the eyes gently, and then get a towel and dab off- hopefully all the foundation and waterproof eye makeup should be gone. But i use the Pixi Vitamin C cleanser to swipe my face with a pad (foundation is still on the pad, so I swipe again with the vitamin C cleanser) and I use a cotton ear bud with micellar water to gently rub under my eyes to remove the waterproof eyeliner. So there are extra cleansing steps even after using this 2x IF i am removing makeup. It’s different with SPF as I find 1-2 cleanses enough.

Key Ingredients: Blackcurrant seed oil, cranberry seed oil and black bean oil is supposed to provide antioxidant/vitamins and minerals but I don’t see that as you wash this off :/

Full Ingredients: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Isononyl Isononanoate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Isopropyl Myristate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Polysorbate 20, Fragrance, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil

NOTE: Skincarisma have a full product ingredients list breakdown HERE

Fragrance: Yes there is fragrance and a lot of Oils SO this would not be good for skins sensitive to essential oils and fragrance. I’m ok (to an extent) with this BECAUSE this does not stay on the skin, this gets washed off. I must say I quite like the smell of it.

Packaging: Plastic bottle with a pump (I love a pump with a cleanser). It comes with a plastic piece that clips on and prevents the bottle from being pumped by accident during travel – I like this. It means I can pack it and not be worried.

Texture: An easily spreadable oil that you can rub around your eyes. This isn’t sticky, it’s greasy. It washes off easily as it emulsifies and is easy to spread around your face. NOTE: This could clog people’s pores as it’s quite thick.

Looks very much like an oil – runs down the skin super fast. Does not cling to the skin

Stings my eyes?: No this does not. I can rub my eyes and it’s fine.

How long have I been using this: 1 month

Wash-off effectiveness (removal of makeup/spf): this removes my spf fine! But even if I gently rub this with my waterproof eye makeup, I need 2 cleanses. My Kohl liner takes 2X cleanses and still does not fully come off (requires a micellar water for the water-line eyeliner removal). I DO THINK that this pairs better with a regular cleanser after initially removing your makeup. I don’t think this goes as well just using this oil AS your double cleanse. So i.e. use this to wash, then another cleanser for the second wash, as this does not fully remove my foundation/mascara after 2 washes.

The video shows that it takes quite a long time of rubbing to fully dissolve all the makeup. Also a wipe is used to remove everything, but if you simply splash your face with water and air-dry, this wont be enough to remove your makeup. I use a towel because extra dabbing is required to remove stubborn makeup.

What I like:

  • You get A LOT
  • Does not sting itch or burn
  • Washes off SPF
  • Can use on my eyes
  • Easily spreadable / can massage
  • Decent price (for the amount)
  • I love a pump
  • the packaging is helpful as I can travel with it via the plastic piece

What I don’t like:

  • Does not fully remove my eye liner/mascara even after 2 washes (so a micellar water is required for water-lined pencil liner) – I think this pairs way better with a cleanser that is NOT oil to be fully effective.
  • Not as good as my DHC cleanser (my DHC cleanser removes my eye makeup after 2 washes).
  • fragrance! and essential oils
  • Yes you get a large volume BUT I have to waste/use so much in order to wash off makeup 1 day – I’ve been using this a month and I’m halfway through, wearing makeup almost every day.

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 3.8/5 This is a decent cleanser. Genuinely not bad BUT I do think that my DHC cleanser is better. It depends if you are using this cleanser to remove simply spf (then it’s fine) or foundation/waterproof mascara/waterproof eyeliner – then this cleanser struggles. Also not happy with the fragrance.

Would I purchase?: If the DHC cleanser didn’t exist, yes.
