Note: These contain Limonene (Fragrant), which smells citrus-y.

Texture: These feel like typical stick lip balms. They aren’t really thick on the lips and don’t melt immediately and require a few swipes to fully cover the lips.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: Not oily, but emollient/moisturising. This doesn’t melt really fast on the lips (more wax-y).

Balls up?: No.

Layerable?: Yes.

What is the overall effect?: Moisturised lips (not all day), with a slight hint of colour (if you’re using the tinted balms). See below for swatches.

Shade: Rosette

Great for cool-toned lips. If you see below, you can see the undertone and true shade of this.

Swatch:

As you can see, there is some shine to these lip balms.

It doesn’t look thick. There is some colour payoff (it took a few swipes to get this).

Video Swatch:

Lip Swatch: Top Lip (No product) VS Bottom Lip (Product)

As you can see, there is a colour difference between the top and bottom lip, so there is some colour! This did take a few swipes to achieve this colour however. The lips look moisturised. This is a more natural finish.

Shade: Poppy

This is a more warm-toned base.

You can see this is more orangey-red.

Video Swatch:

Lip Swatch: Top Lip (No product) VS Bottom Lip (Product)

You can see that this looks warmer but also more natural on my lips (unsure if this is a saturation problem, or more that this warm tone suits my lips better). It took a few swipes to achieve this colour.

Shade: Clear:

This is a simple clear lip balm that smells like lemon. It is moisturising but needs to be re-applied after eating and drinking.

Video Swatch:

Lip Swatch: Top Lip (No product) VS Bottom Lip (Product)

There is a difference between the top lip and bottom lip. This definitely makes the lip look more glossy (I applied a few swipes).

All 3 Shades Swatches + Comparisons:

You can see that all three shimmer/reflect the light.

Fragrance?: Yes, this contains Limonene (and smells citrus-y).

How long have I been using these?: 2-3 Weeks.

Dupe / Alternative to the ”Clear” Shade:

  1. The Ordinary’s Squalane + Amino Acids Lip Balm (Swatches + Review HERE). I do enjoy my Gel lip balms, and this is thin and easy to use.

2. The Lanolips 101 Lip Ointment is clear, it is also thick and nicely moisturising (Swatches + Review HERE). HOWEVER, I do also recommend the Lanolips overnight lip mask (Swatches +Review HERE).

What I like:

  • Moisturising
  • Not sticky or tacky
  • lightweight (some people prefer a thinner texture)
  • A lot of product (And because they’re fat sticks, they’re easy to apply all over the lips) – last a long time.
  • I appreciate the inclusion of skin-beneficial ingredients

What I don’t like:

  • Not very pigmented / saturated (good for a natural look / finish, but I prefer saturation. I also have to swipe a lot to get good colour coverage)
  • Doesn’t last all day (has to be re-applied, especially if you want colour)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 3 / 5 – I wanted to really enjoy these lip balms, but they didn’t suit my taste entirely. I’m not the biggest fan of limonene, so I wasn’t a huge fan of the scent, the colour is very subtle (which isn’t my taste) and these are so large, I feel like I should be putting them on my cheeks rather than my lips. They are moisturising, but I do have to continuously re-apply after eating or drinking (my lips don’t feel intensely moisturised after these have worn off either). I would recommend these to those who don’t have very dry lips, and who like a very easy-to-apply lip balm (because it’s so big). You could also apply these on the cheeks for a subtle pop of colour. But overall, this is good for those who like a natural ”no makeup makeup” look (or enjoy a citrus-scented clear balm with some shimmer).

Would I Purchase?: No. Overall, I prefer more saturated lip balms, or thicker-textured lip balms.

Alternative?: During the day, I like to use an SPF-containing Lip Balm/Gloss, such as the Ultra Violette Lip Sheen screen SPF50+ UVA/UVB – These are much more glossy, saturated and moisturising than the Pixi Lip Balm in my opinion (Swatches + Review HERE).

  • The Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm SPF30 is very saturated and provides some sun protection. Swatches + Review HERE.
  • If you don’t care for SPF in your lip balm, then Lanolips offer 3 different shades of saturated colour Jelly Lip Balms (LINK). This has a smaller shade range than these Pixi Lip Balms, and the textures are different (pixi = stick format vs Lanolips = gel format), but they are mor saturated (and contain Lanolin, which is moisturising).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
