Review: Ultra Violette – Fave Fluid SPF50+ Ultralight Skinscreen

Where to purchase: Cult Beauty: LINK / Beauty Bay: LINK / Sephora: LINK / Harrods: LINK

Price: £37

Volume: 75ml

Made in: Australia

What is it?: A thin liquid/fluid, unscented, non-sticky sunblock with a high SPF rating (UVA and UVB).

What does it do? / Aims: The brand states that this is their thinnest formula and works to reduce pigmentation and brighten the skin.

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types

What I think: All Skin Types as long as you don’t mind a semi-dewy finish. In terms of skin tone, this doesn’t provide a white cast so darker skin types could use this.

EU allergen-free?: Yes

Vegan?: Yes.

Cruelty Free?: Yes

Directions: Apply every day (even indoors); ”Apply a 20c piece amount” in the final step of your skincare routine i.e. after a moisturiser and before makeup (Instructions from HERE).

How I use it: I follow the instructions as above and apply this in the morning before I work out, making sure the whole face is covered (I use the Ultra Violette Body SPF for the Neck and ears (Review HERE). As this is lightweight, if I feel like I have not applied an adequate amount of SPF, I will apply a second layer.

Note: This has a dewy finish, so if I feel like I look too glowy, I will apply a mattifying powder (gently with a loose brush, dabbing the skin) on top, which really helps.

Stings the eyes?: Did not sting my eyes even during my workout.

Turns milky when sweating?: No.

Sunscreen Filters: Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S – UVA + UVB), Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid (Ensulizole – UVB), Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (AvobenzoneUVA), Octyl Triazone (Uvinul T 150UVB).

Note: Uvinul T150 + Tinosorb S are new and effective filters which help solidify that high SPF rating.

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Anti-blemish = redues the size of pores and reduces excess sebum + Brightening + Antioxidant) / Ascorbyl Glucoside (Antioxidant + Brightening) / Arginine (Natural Moisturising Factor) / Disodium Lauriminodipropionate Tocopheryl Phosphates (Soothing) / Vitamin E (Antioxidant + Moisturising) / Hydrolyzed Soy Protein (Moisturiser).

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

  • Yes this does contain Denatured alcohol (has the potential to be drying) but the brand has included numerous hydrating and moisturising ingredients to try and counteract this effect. Furthermore the most important use of this ingredient is that it especially helps fluid SPFs be thin and lightweight to wear (and also fast-absorbing).

Texture: This is a Sun Fluid. This spreads far and starts to set quite quickly. It’s fast to dry-down (which I appreciate) and doesn’t feel uncomfortable on my oily-combo skin. It even feels somewhat moisturising (my skin doesn’t feel tight or like this is drying). I would not say this is intensely hydrating, but it doesn’t dry out my skin.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: No (as this sets on the skin and forms a film).

Balls up?: No.

  • As you can see, this is a liquid SPF and if I tilt my hand, the product would run down it.

  • The white dissipates the more you spread this along the skin.

Do you see how light, thin and fluid this texture is? It’s easy to spread, however this product does start to set quite quickly (so don’t rub it too harshly to tamper the film).

No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

  • Hopefully you can see that glowy + reflective finish.

Matte or Dewy Finish?: As you can see from the swatches above, this does provide a ”glow” to the skin and is not mattifying. Even while sweating (i.e. during a workout) this looks glowy on the skin.

Whit cast?: No (not on my Warm Golden Skin Tone).

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Yes. This does not mean that this isn’t suitable for sensitive skins.

Summer or Winter?: Oily Skins can enjoy this both in the summer and winter (because this is so lightweight). Dry skins may prefer this in the Summer only (or use a moisturiser underneath during the winter).

Layerable?: Yes (Doesn’t ball up).

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, this has a thin, lightweight texture and runs down the hand. It is not sticky or tacky and does not leave a white cast but provides glow to the skin.

Fragrance?: Fragrance and Essential-Oil Free (This smells like a sunblock).

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: 2-3 Months.

Will I use until Completion?: Yes!

How Long will that take?: 1-2 Months.

The Effect?: Moisturised, sun-protected skin that does not feel uncomfortable. There is a glow to the skin: If you are worried about the shine, then use a mattifying powder to take away some of the shine.

What I like:

  • Lightweight
  • Moisturising
  • No White Cast
  • Not greasy
  • Not sticky
  • Cruelty-Free
  • Recyclable packaging
  • Dries-down quite quickly (doesn’t take ages)
  • Did not irritate / worsen my skin
  • Did not sting the eyes

What I don’t like:

  • Contains Denatured Alcohol
  • Not intensely hydrating
  • Because this is so thin and fluid, it may require more product to ensure you have an adequate sun protection (i.e. use up the product more quickly – that’s why I recommend using a body sunblock for the ears and neck to save up on product)
  • Quite a dewy/glowy finish (for my oily-combo skin in the summer)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4.3/5 – Probably my favourite Sunblock from the brand as this is the lightest, I don’t get a white cast (warm golden tone skin) and this also doesn’t feel uncomfortable for my Oily-Combo skin. This doesn’t get full marks due to the glowy finish (I have to use a mattifying powder to get a finish I prefer) and although I understand Alcohol is important to keep this formula light and fast-drying, it’s still in there. That being said, this doesn’t make my skin feel tight and dry. I recommend using this on the face and then their Body SPF for the neck and ears to save on volume and not use up this fluid too quickly!

Would I repurchase?: Yes!

Dupe?: La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Fluid Face Lotion SPF 50+ (Swatches + Review HERE).

This is a lovely lightweight sunblock that also provides no white cast. It feels smooth and doesn’t look intesnely glowy on the skin.

Available at: Boots: LINK / Look Fantastic: LINK

This sunblock is lightweight, has no white cast and might be even thinner than the Ultraviolette sunblock.

Available at: Look Fantastic: LINK / Sephora: LINK

A little grainy but other than that, this is very affordable and lightweight and has no white cast (and is unscented).

Although slightly more expensive, this is very smooth and comfortable and so light on the skin! It does not sting the eyes and has no white cast.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
