COSRX – Acne Pimple Master Patches

Vegan: Yes

Cruelty-Free: Yes

Volume: 7mm x 10 patches, 10mm x 5 patches, 12mm x 9 patches

Price: ~£ 2.83 / $3.61

Available at: Olive Young: LINK / Yesstyle: LINK

What is it + What does it do?: These are Hydrocolloid (wound-healing) patches that protect the skin from external pollutant + bacteria, to reduce pimple progression (stop it swelling) and even reduce it. This sucks out excess sebum from the pimple and helps prevent the formation of acne scars (as it also stops you from picking at your pimples).

Directions + How I use it: Select the suitable patch size, tear it from the protective film and attach onto clean skin (do not apply essence / lotion before applying so this patch sticks on better). The patch might turn white and swell (do to sucking up the pus) and switch with a new patch.

Note: Patches do not work (for me) on pimples that don’t have that ”white head” i.e. a bump that actually has puss. Furthermore, if I make a tiny hole (i.e. poking the raised pus pimple with a sterile tip), it makes the pimple patches work better as they can suck that puss up through the hole.

The box this product came in

Note: The patches come in 7mm, 10mm and 12mm sizes which you can use, depending on how big your pimple is.

Packaging: This comes in a silver pouch that you have to cut open to get the square of patches which are sealed in another pouch (to keep these sterile).

As you can see, this has a smooth texture to it. The other side of this patch is sticky and easy to apply onto dry skin!

Does this adhere well?: Yes, as long as the skin is clean + dry.

Ingredients: Cellulose gum, Styrene Isoprene Styrene Block Copolymer, Polysobutylene, Petroleum Resin, Polyurethane Film, Liquid Paraffin, Tetrakis Methane

Overall + My Experience: These are one of my favourite patches on the market; they do what they are supposed to do. This works on oily or dry skin (you just need to make sure the area is dry/clean). I do wish they had an even bigger mm size for bigger blemishes (or to cover 2 pimples at one time). These are also translucent so they blend in with fairer-skins better (if you want to wear them during the day).

Also there’s not very many so if you are someone who breaks out a lot, you could run out quite quickly using these regularly. So it might be better to use a spot treatment instead (LINK).

Dupe?: The By Wishtrend – Clear Skin shield Patches are just as good, if not slightly better, as I prefer the unique added oval shape patch, and has slightly better adherence and a slightly stickier quality than the COSRX patches). Furthermore the Wishtrend has 39 patches whereas the COSRX is 24.

Available at: Beauty Bay: LINK / Skinsider: LINK

  • The Clear Skin Days Patches are also good! These have more patches (52 over COSRX’s 24 and Wishtrend’s 39) AND this contains a rectangular-shapes patch which can cover more blemishes at once.

Abib – Heartleaf Spot Pad

Volume: 150ml / 80 pads

Price: £17.58 /$22.40

Vegan?: Yes

Available at: Amazon: LINK / Olive Young: LINK / Yesstyle: LINK

What is it + What does it do?: Pads that aim to calm sensitive skin (and help soothe breakouts).

Suitable for: Oily, Combination and Normal Skins.

Directions + How I use it: Use the tweezers provided to pick up a pad and place it on the area. The ”Rough” Side is meant for gentle mild exfoliation while the smooth side is to soothe sensitive skin. Use the included tweezer to pick up a pad and place it on the desired area

Key Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Urea, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer (Hydrating) + Houttuynia Cordata Extract + Caffeine (Antioxidants) + Acetyl Glucosamine (Brightening) + Allantoin (Soothing).

Full Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Allantoin, Trehalose, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Caprylyl Glycol, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Acetyl Glucosamine, Hydroxyacetophenone, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Tocopherol, Biosaccharide Gum-4, Caffeine, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA

Fragrance + Essential Oil-free?: Yes.

Texture:

The pad feels soft. Even the ”Rough” side of it is still soft on the skin. It is definitely saturated with product and when rubbing along the skin, this feels instantly cooling and hydrating. There is a lot of the liquid product itself, so much that I accidentally tipped some out, not realise the pot was half-full with liquid. This really makes sure that the pads are well impregnated with the serum/toner.

The liquid is not sticky or tacky. It does not feel greasy, is hydrating and absorbs quickly into the skin.

Video Swatch:

As you can see, this definitely is a very saturated pad. The liquid is watery and lightweight (not a thick gel). There is a lot of product, so I can really use this along both the face and neck easily.

Scent: This almost smells like orange juice (in the pot), but has hardly any scent when rubbing on the skin.

Dupes: In terms of ingredients and also working to hydrate and soothe the skin; the Abib – Sedum Hyaluron Pad Hydrating Touch (LINK).

  • In terms of similar ingredients (and if you don’t need it in a pad format), then the Abib – Heartleaf Calming Toner Skin Booster is very similar! (LINK).
  • Furthermore, the Bring Green – Bamboo Hyalu Hydrating Toner is also just as hydrating and soothing (Bamboo water is a gloriously hydrating ingredient).

Note: Both these toners contain Hyaluronic Acid and have 10 ingredients in common with the pads. They are fragrance and essential oil free and work to help soothe and hydrate (and brighten) the skin.

Roundlab – Pine Tree Cica Soothing Body Mist

Volume: 150ml

Price: ~£16.49 / $21

Available at: Olive Young: LINK

What is it + What does it do?: This is a soothing mist spray for the body (without being sticky). It is meant to reduce skin inflammation and NOT leave a greasy finish. It’s aimed at those who are prone to breakouts (but please know that these ingredients contain numerous fragrant essential oils so f you are sensitive to them then please be weary).

Good for: All Skin Types (except sensitive I would say).

Directions + How I use it: Spray this where needed (i.e. any Dry areas + trouble-areas) and spray about 20cm away, letting it absorb.

Key Ingredients: Niacinamide (Brightening and Anti-blemish) + Salicylic Acid (Exfoliating + Anti-blemish), Pine Leaf Extract + Portulaca Oleracea Extract + Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract + Centella Asiatica Extract + Asiaticoside + Madecassoside (Antioxidants aka soothing and skin-protecting). Gluconolactone (Exfoliating). Hyaluronic Acid +  Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid + Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate + Glycoproteins + Betaine (Hydrating), Panthenol, White Willow Bark Extract + Allantoin (Soothing),

Texture:

This is a lightweight mist that is not sticky or tacky. It is lightweight and fast-absorbing. It is hydrating.

Scent: This smells like the essential-oils, so this smells herbal-y, citrus-y (and also like Willow Bark).

Overall Effect + Experience: 3 (nearly 2.9)/5 – I love the spray mechanism of this. I love that it’s not sticky and is hydrating. I’m just not a fan of the scent and inclusion of many fragrant ingredients however. Those who are prone to breakouts usually try to avoid scented products, and this product although scented, is aimed at blemish-prone skins (which doesn’t make too much sense).

Dupes?: My personal favourite mist is the Niod Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist. It is a soothing and hydrating mist, but isn’t really targeted at acneic skins.

Available at: Deciem (LINK) / Lookfantastic: LINK / Adore Beauty: LINK

The Abib – Heartleaf Facial Mist Calming Spray – 150ml – LINK

  • Very similar to the Abib pads but in a mist format. This is unscented and works to soothe and rebuild the skin.

The Pyunkang Yul – ATO Intensive Soothing Mist – 145ml – LINK

  • This contains honeysuckle flower extract and x5 types of Hyaluronic Acid and is suitable for sensitive skins.

Volume: 50ml

Price: ~£ 14.88 / ~$18.95

What is it + What does it do?: A Hyaluronic Acid Complex Ampoule (Contains multiple forms of Hyaluronic acid) + Panthenol, Allantoin and Madecassoside altogether to hydrate and soothe the skin. This has a blue tint due to the Antioxidant Malachite which is included. Furthermore this is meant to be non-sticky.

Goof for: Combination, Normal and Dry Skins.

Directions + How I use it: Apply 3-5 drops onto the skin and spread over the face. You can apply multiple layers to add moisture. Finish with a cream.

Key Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Witch Hazel, Madecassoside, Malachite Extract, Skullcap Root Extract (Hydrating, Soothing Antioxidants) + Panthenol, Allantoin, Beta-Glucan (Soothing).

Texture:

As you can see, this has a gel-like consistency and easily spreads along the skin. I would apply a cream on top to seal everything in.

Sticky?: No (which was surprising to me).

Greasy?: No.

  • As you can see, this is a gel-like serum. It’s not very thin and not very watery, it feels much more like a gel.

Scent: I don’t get much of a scent from this.

Overall Rating and my Experience: 3.9 / 5 – A nice, pleasant and generally hydrating serum. Personally I prefer even lighter serums as this almost feels like a gloopy toner, but it doesn’t mean this doesn’t hydrate the skin. I appreciate that it doesn’t aggressively ball up or become really sticky or tacky on the skin.

Dupes?: The Geek & Gorgeous HA 5 Light serum also contains 5 types of Hyaluronic acid and is lightweight and hydrating (LINK).

  • The Isntree Ultra-Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum (LINK) is also similar in terms of ingredients and is hydrating. It is also Fragrance and Essential-Oil Free.

The texture of this cream is lovely. It’s almost a gel cream but with slightly less water. It does not feel heavy and easily absorbs into the skin. for my Oily-Combo Skin, this hasn’t been too heavy, but I do wear it as a PM cream.

Balls up?: No.

Sticky?: No.

Video Swatch:

Scent: I don’t get a scent from this (this is fragrance + eo-free).

Overall Rating and my Experience: 4 (nearly 3.9)/5 – a decent, solid cream that moisturises and does not seem to aggravate the skin. It’s not a very watery cream, but it’s lightweight. I appreciate that it is unscented and is aimed at sensitive skins.

Dupes?: The Numbuzin Purple Complex Cream (LINK) is also not too heavy and feels soothing and hydrating. It works to soothe and repair irritated skin using Glutathione. Check out the video below to see swatches.

Conclusion

I’ve genuinely been surprised by this box! I was worried I wouldn’t find the Abib pads very useful, but they’ve been so hydrating (and the liquid doesn’t ball up once dried down) and the Torriden serum was surprising, as I really thought that it too would ball up on me once dried down (but you do have to enjoy a gel texture > a watery texture with this serum), but isn’t my favourite hydrating serum ever. The Make P:rem cream wasn’t thick or heavy which once again, was also a shock. My favourite would be either the Abib Pads (genuinely hydrating, cooling and didn’t sting) or the Make Pr:em Cream (not only Moisturising, but didn’t ball up and skin-beneficial and easy to carry around).

The mist was my least favourite as I’m not a fan of the heavy scent and the COSRX patches will be useful to use (however I still prefer the Wishtrend patches).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
