Review: Dear Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream

Where to purchase: Available on Yesstyle: HERE / Or Look Fantastic UK HERE / Wishtrend HERE / Soko Glam HERE Stylevana HERE

Price: £24

Volume: 70ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: A Lightweight Gel-Cream Moisturiser

Brand Description: This moisturiser containing Jeju Green Tea (Antioxidant) + Panthenol (Soothing) aims to deeply moisturise the skin.

Supposedly Good for: All Skins + Seasons

What I think: I’d say more Combo-Dry Skins. The more I use this, the more I realise that this product leaves a slight emollient/creamy finish to the skin which dry skins would enjoy but not oily skins (may feel greasy) – unless using this as a PM Moisturiser. Sensitive skins could use but some people experience Hyaluronic Acid sensitivity so be weary.

Directions: Apply an adequate amount after cleansing (in the last steps of one’s skincare routine).

How I use it: I use this in the PM (I find it a bit too thick as an AM moisturiser). No Layering or balling up issues, so I could use this on top of most products. I prefer to use this during cold/dry weather as I’m not a fan of the slight creamy/greasy finish during hot and humid months.

Key Ingredients: Phytosphingosine – a lipid in the skin that has antimicrobial properties and helps prop up the skin’s natural defence system – so it’s anti-acne. Green Tea, Cica + Rosemary Leaf Extract are Antioxidants. included in here, they are also soothing, along with Panthenol. Artemisia Vulgaris Extract (Mugwort) is also included (meant to soothe the skin). Laminaria Japonica (Japanese Kelp) is also included (soothing), and Hibiscus Extract (Skin conditioning).

I also like the addition of Hyaluronic Acid (but may cause this cream to sting if the skin is sensitised). The ingredients basically contain fatty ingredients (emollients), hydrating, skin conditioning and soothing ingredients.

Texture: This is a watery, gel-cream that’s translucent and doesn’t slip and slide down the hand but doesn’t hold its shape in the jar (almost like a jelly).

If you add a lot of this product to the face OR apply this on top of already hydrating products, the finish of this is very glowy + shiny. , it de

The finish of this gives the skin a very nice smooth and soft finish – lines and any dryness is filled in. The cheeks feel soft and plump. But I will say that this has a creamy finish, just because they call this a gel, don’t be mistaken that this is a purely water/gel cream – it feels moisturising, it feels creamy BUT without the heaviness or weight of a thick cream.

There doesn’t seem to be any balling or pilling up and this layers fine on top of products.

This is not sticky or tacky.

You can see how shiny/glowy the skin looks and how hydrated + moisturised the skin looks too. As you can see this does not have a matte finish.

Hopefully you can see that slight shiny/glowy, emollient finish on the skin

Which Season?: This is good for Dry Skins throughout the Year, particularly the Summer (AM + PM). For Oily Skins, this suits the skin more in the Winter as an AM and PM Moisturiser, however it can be used by Combo Skins in the Summer as a PM Moisturiser.

Fragrance?: No added fragrance and/or essential oils (doesn’t smell like anything to me).

Good Under Makeup?: Yes, as this is more creamy than silicone, it seems to sit fine under makeup (but no oil control). I think this could be a good primer as it provides a glowy finish to the skin and doesn’t ball up.

How long have I been using this?: For 3 months

The Effect?: Moisturised + Hydrated Skin (Didn’t irritate or disrupt the skin’s barrier). It also softens and smoothens out the skin upon initial application. If too much product is added however, this does give me a glowy/shiny finish which I think dry-er skins would enjoy! (Glass-skin effect).

What I like:

  • No added fragrance and/or essential oils
  • Didn’t ruin my skin
  • Moisturising
  • Lightweight
  • I like the added skin-beneficial ingredients (i.e. not just a basic moisturiser but they thought to add in HA + Panthenol etc)
  • Makes the skin feel soft and smooth when applied

What I don’t like:

  • Not a huge fan of the creamy (nearly greasy) finish – I kind of have to use this in cold + dry weather rather than hot + humid weather (not versatile)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 – This is a nice, lightweight gel cream! I think Normal-Dry Skins would really love this. I think Combo Skins could use this but as a PM Moisturiser (more so in cold, dry weather) as it definitely is Hydrating and Moisturising. I think this would be great under makeup as it provides a dewy glow to the skin. I like that lots of skin-beneficial ingredients have been added in here instead of leaving this as a basic moisturiser, so it does provide that extra care to the skin.

Would I repurchase?: No I wouldn’t simply because I have Oily-Combo skin and I do find this a little too emollient/creamy for me (doesn’t suit my skin type but not a bad product) – I’m also not a fan of the hugely shiny finish this gives me if I’ve applied either a little too much OR on top of other hydrating products.

Dupe?: The Coconut Water Cream from First Aid Beauty is FAB for oilier skins (want more water and less emollients) HERE / HERE or HERE

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
