What is it?: A lightweight, gel-type cream containing eight types of hyaluronic acid, ceramide capsules, Niacinamide and Ectoin.
What does it do?: Hydrate, soothe redness, strengthen the skin’s barrier and lock in moisture (with a non-sticky + comfortable finish).
This aims to hydrate/moisturise all the layers of the skin [Diagram]:
Supposedly good for: Ideal for sensitive and oily skin types but also suitable for all skin types, including dry and combination skins.
What I think: I would agree that sensitive skins could use this. I do think Oily-Combination / Combination skin types (and even oily skins in the winter) would really enjoy this cream most of all. But Dry skins could use this in the summer.
Note: This is the renewed version of the Rovectin Skin Essentials Barrier Repair Aqua Concentrate.

Directions: ”After cleansing and toning, apply a moderate amount of the cream evenly, following the natural texture of your skin. Re-apply as needed, especially on dry days, to enhance hydration.”
How I use it: I apply this in the AM before a workout (as it doesn’t sting my eyes and doesn’t turn milky when I sweat and also doesn’t make me look extra greasy or sweaty, even during a workout). I also apply this in the PM as a moisturiser (during the winter months as I have Oily-Combination Skin).

Texture: This contains tiny ceramide balls that burst and blend into the skin as you rub it in. It feels cooling upon contact and, while it’s creamier than expected, it’s lightweight and comfortable even on my oily-combination skin.
Sticky?: No (See swatch video below).
Greasy?: No.
Balls up?: No.
- As you can see, this starts off transparent. Hopefully you can see the little ceramide balls in the moisturiser.
You can see the ceramide balls as you spread this cream out over the skin. They burst and blend into the skin, so the cream does not feel rough.
Initially, when this comes into contact with the skin, it feels quite cooling and relatively lightly hydrating/moisturising.
You can see that the little balls have dissolved while rubbing this in.
Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) Vs Product (Right)
Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: No.
Summer or Winter?: Combination Skins: All year. Oily Skins: Winter. Dry Skins: Summer.
Layerable?: Yes.
Video Swatch:
- As you can see, this doesn’t look sticky or tacky or too dewy or heavy on the skin.
Fragrance?: This is Fragrance + EO free and doesn’t have much of a scent to it (i.e. not unpleasant to apply).
Good Under Makeup?: Yes.
How long have I been using this?: 2 Months.
Will I use until Completion?: Yes.
How Long will that take?: Another 2-3 Months.
The Effect?: This instantly feels quite cooling on the skin, and then once absorbed, it feels lightweight and there has been some hydration/moisturisation going on. The skin doesn’t look extremely different, even after months of using this cream – but it has prevented me from looking very tight and dry.

What I like:
- Fragrance + EO Free
- Cruelty-Free
- Quite Hydrating
- Moisturising
- Not sticky or tacky
- Doesn’t make me look really glowy/shiny/dewy
- Comfortable to wear (on my Oily-combination skin)
- Sturdy and easy to use packaging (hygenic)
What I don’t like:
- Not as moisturising or hydrating as other creams/gel-creams I’ve tried. May not be suitable for Dry or very dehydrated skins (in the Winter months)
Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4 (nearly 4.1)/5 – A really lovely moisturiser that I find very comfortable (especially in the AM) in these dry months as someone with Oily-Combination skin. It is my favourite Rovectin moisturiser so far. I don’t think Dry skins or very dehydrated skins would find this moisturiser very useful/suitable (especially in the dry months) as this isn’t the most hydrating/moisturising cream I have ever used (I think the dupes below are either more moisturising or hydrating for you).
However, this is still relatively hydrating/moisturising, especially in the AM for my skin type, and I enjoy how lightweight and comfortable it is to wear without making me look greasy or shiny, even when I work out.
Would I repurchase?: Yes, as I enjoy how this did not irritate my skin and was comfortable, especially when working out (didn’t make me feel greasy or look greasy).
Dupe?: I will start off with alternatives for Oilier/Combination Skin Types, which is: The Numbuzin Pantothenic B5 Active Soothing Cream is quite similar (doesn’t have the little balls of ceramide however, and isn’t Vegan. It is unscented and is very smooth, hydrating and lightweight (Check out the review video below for swatches).
- The Acwell Real Aqua Balancing Cream Swatches + Review – is very hydrating and very comfortable on Oily-Combination skins (Even oily skins). It is unscented + vegan.

- For those who want a slightly thicker, more emollient cream, then the Geek & Gorgeous 101 Hydration Station also has Ectoin in it and is also Fragrance + EO Free, Vegan + Cruelty-Free.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
