Review: By Wishtrend – Korean Green Tea & Enzyme Milky Foaming Wash – Gentle Cleansing + Sebum Control

Where to purchase: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

Price: ~£19 /$20.40

Volume: 140ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it + What does it do?: A Gel-cream-to-foam cleanser that helps cleanse the skin (and reduce excess sebum) without stripping the skin too much of its moisture (tries to hydrate the skin).

Aims to: Cleanse the skin while helping to reduce sebum, moisturise and soothe the skin.

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types (Particularly sensitive skins).

What I think: I would agree that sensitive skins could use this. Oily + Combination and Normal Skin types may prefer this over Dry skin types. Dehydration-prone skins may prefer this in the summer months, or should try and use an even more hydrating gel cleanser like the Geek & Gorgeous Jelly Joker or the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Cleansing Gel (Swatches + Review).

Cruelty Free?: Yes

EU-allergen free?: Yes

Packaging: Plastic bottle with a pump mechanism. You initially twist the top to unlock it, but you can’t lock it again after.

Directions: ”Dispense and massage a proper amount onto the skin. Rinse off completely with lukewarm water afterwards” (from the website).

How I use it: I use this to wash off my sunblock and sweat at the end of the day. If I wasn’t also washing my neck and ears and decolletage, I would just use 1 pump for the face. However, because I am covering a wider area, I use two pumps. I never apply this dry, and also add water first to slightly foam this up, before massaging onto the skin.

Why Green Tea?: It’s rich in antioxidants and is soothing. Green Tea contains caffeine antioxidant polyphenols like catechins and EGCG, which can help protect the skin against inflammation, free radicals, and reduces excess sebum.

Key Ingredients: 52% Green Tea (Antioxidant, Soothing) / Lauric acid (helps prevent the growth of P.acnes i.e. it is anti-blemish) / Cocoa Seed Extract + Cica (Antioxidants + Soothing) / Oat Meal Extract (Soothing) / Manniton, Dextrin, Fig Extract + Beta-Glucan (Moisturising and Hydrating).

Full Ingredients: Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Aqua (Water), Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Lauric Acid, Lauryl Hydroxysultaine, Butylene Glycol, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Palmitic Acid, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Stearic Acid, Potassium Myristate, Hydrated Silica, Potassium Laurate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Stearate, Mannitol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Flower Extract, Dextrin, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Papain, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Bromelain, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Beta-Glucan, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract, Tocopherol, Ceramide NP, Glycine Max (Soybean) Seed Extract

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

Texture: This has a creamy texture. It slides/glides down the hand and is easy to rub along the skin although I would recommend applying some water first before massaging into the skin, to let this thin out and foam up more.

Sticky?: Initially, yes (without water), but then it smoothes out.

Greasy?: No (water-based).

Video Swatch (Does this foam up?):

  • As you can see, this has an opaque look. It runs down the hand.

Does this emulsify / turn milky when water is added? (I.e. when washing off?):

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: No. This did not sting for me.

Summer or Winter?: For dry skins – Summer. For oilier skins – all-year round.

Good at removing makeup?:

[Left to Right: Liquid Lip / Lip Liner / Eye Liner / Lipstick]

  • As you can see, this couldn’t fully remove the Liquid Lipstick, but it did dissolve the lip liner, eyeliner and lipstick (when water is added to wash off). I still would not recommend this to remove heavy makeup, and would only use it in the second step of a two-step cleansing routine.

Fragrance?: This is fragrance + EO Free (It smells verrry lightly of green tea).

How long have I been using this?: 1-2 Months

Will I use until Completion?: Yes (Although it’s not my favourite).

How Long will that take?: Not that long. I’ve tried to be sparing but I’m already more than halfway through.

The Effect?: Cleansed skin. Yes it feels slightly tighter than I would like after cleansing (but it’s not painfully tight or irritating). This doesn’t sting the skin and in terms of SPF removal, it does a good job. My issue is that unless I wash this off the eyes multiple times, it can sting them (which is uncomfortable).

What I like:

  • Cruelty-Free
  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Did not sting or irritate my skin
  • Did not leave my skin painfully tight (like the Numbuzin cleanser)
  • I like the pump mechanism (easy to use)

What I don’t like:

  • Occasionally would sting my eyes (have to make sure you rinse this off really well from the eyes)
  • SLIGHTLY more drying than I’d like (I have dehydration-prone skin)
  • Product builds up and dries up at the tip of the dispenser

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 3.9 (nearly 3.8) / 5 – A decent cleanser that does remove my SPF. It didn’t sting or grossly irritate my skin, and was easy to spread along the skin, it emulsifies when water is added and it doesn’t have much of a scent to it. If not cleansed thoroughly however, it can sting the eyes. And also, this does make the skin feel slightly tighter than I would like after washing (dehydration-prone skin), however that is why Oilier skins may prefer this, as this cleanser helps reduce excess sebum production in the skin.

Note/Update: My sister [Dry skin], who has also been using this cleanser with me, had this to say about it; ”I find it a bit weird. It smells quite strange, and it seems to leave a bit of a film when washing off, like it doesn’t fully come off the skin”.

How does this differ from By Wishtrend’s Green Tea Powder wash?: The powder contains Green Tea Powder, whereas the Wash contains 52% Green Tea Water. The powder is meant to lightly exfoliate the skin via the powder texture, whereas the wash is meant to help sensitive skins more (although I find both suitable for sensitive skins).

Furthermore the Powder is $20.40 vs the Wash which is $17. The Wash is 140ml vs the Powder which is 110g.

Would I repurchase?: No. To help explain this, I have recently gotten back into using the Geek and Gorgeous Jelly Joker cleanser, and I have much much preferred using the Jelly Joker and have noticed how it does not sting my eyes and also doesn’t make my skin feel tight (almost at all), which I prefer. Swatches + Review HERE.

Dupe?: The CeraVe Cream-to-Foam Cleanser is a great dupe. It starts off as a cream, foams up, and is similar (in terms of cleansing power), to the Wishtrend Milky Foaming Wash (and doesn’t sting my eyes as often). Swatches + Review HERE.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
