Review: Numbzin – No.2 Deep Clean Fresh Cream Cleanser

Where to purchase: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK / Amazon: LINK / Skinsider: LINK / Superdrug: LINK

Price: £12.82

Volume: 120ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: The brand states that this is a ”Creamy” cleanser that foams into a rich lather. This is meant to remove impurities (using a coconut-derived surfactant), sebum (pulls out dirt from the pores), makeup and sweat without drying the skin (i.e. using Glycerin). I would describe this a little differently which will be explained in the review.

Aims to: Cleanse pores / Remove Makeup (without drying the skin).

Supposedly Good for: Sensitive + Irritated Skin.

What I think: I would not recommend this to both sensitive and irritated skins as I think this may irritate those skin types in particular (or at least make dehydrated-prone skins feel dryer).

Directions: ”Dispense a good amount onto wet hands and then rub together to form a lather (bubbles). Then wash off with lukewarm water.” (From the website).

How I use it: I used this to wash off my sunblock (not makeup). It did a good job at removing my spf. I could use very little and this would entirely cover my face and neck (and back of the neck) once wet and lathered. This was a bit tricky to wash off quickly and I did my best to wash this off my eyes before opening them, yet this still stung my eyes at every wash.

Key Ingredients: Lauric Acid (Anti-blemish) / Glycerin (Moisturising) / Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract (Both cleansing and a Moisturiser).

Surfactants (Cleansing Ingredients): Myristic Acid, Lauric Acid, Coco-Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Arachidic Acid, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract.

Full Ingredients: Water, Myristic Acid, PEG-8, Stearic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Lauric Acid, Palmitic Acid, Quillaza Skin Extract, Butylene Glycol, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Polyquaternium-7, Arachidic Acid, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Phytate, Oleic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

Texture: I wouldn’t call this a cream texture, I’d say it’s a sticky, opaque gel (This isn’t easy to rub along the skin when dry).

Sticky?: Without water, yes (looks like taffy – please see the swatch video). It’s hard to spread along the skin if this isn’t wet.

Greasy?: No.

  • As you can see, this is has an opaque cream/gel-like texture.

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Slightly, yes.

Summer or Winter?: Summer (for Oily Skins).

Video Swatch (Does this foam up?):

  • As you can see, this is initially sticky like taffy (quite sticky) before adding water. Then, this becomes very smooth and easy to spread along the skin. This definitely foams up a lot! A little goes a long way and spreads along the skin nicely.

Fragrance?: Yes, this contains Fragrance. It smells like a fragrant, slightly floral soap.

Good at removing makeup?:

Left to Right: Liquid Lipstick / Velvet Liquid Lip / Pencil Eye Liner / Lip Pencil Liner.

Method: Rubbed for 30 seconds, then added water and rubbed for another 30 seconds. Did not rub with a towel.

  • As you can see, this removed some of the makeup, but not all (Lip pencil couldn’t be fully removed). I would use this in the second step of a double cleansing routine. However, I think that it would be quite painful and stripping to use this with another cleanser in the same routine. That is why my dehydration-prone skin uses this only in a single cleanse i.e. to remove SPF.

How long have I been using this?: 2-3 Weeks (almost daily).

Will I use until Completion?: No.

The Effect?: Initially; you can definitely feel this sucking out the oil and dirt from the skin (i.e. strongly cleanses the skin). It also stings my eyes once I wash my face (I try very hard to thoroughly wash my eyes before opening them, but it still manages to sting). The skin feels slightly tight straight after cleansing. Then, as time goes on (if I don’t apply skincare on top straight after), the skin feels tighter and tighter.

What I like:

  • Once worked up into a lather, this spreads very far along the skin (a little goes a long way), so this would take a long time to finish (value for money)
  • Definitely does cleanse the skin (you can feel that cleansing sensation)
  • As this foams up / works up into a lather, it’s easy to cleanse the skin and not miss areas or ”under wash” areas compared to a gentle, non-foaming gel cleanser

What I don’t like:

  • Inclusion of fragrance (not dangerous, just not my favourite)
  • Quite stripping (for my dehydration-prone skin) – skin gets tighter as time goes by (if you don’t add any skincare after)
  • Stung my eyes every time I used this (Even after trying to really wash this product off my eyes thoroughly)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 3 (Nearly 2.9)/5 – Overall, not my favourite cleanser. It’s the kind of foaming cleanser I try to avoid i.e. it makes my skin feel tight after cleansing and it only feels tighter as time goes on, after cleansing. It’s also very frustrating how this stung my eyes every single time I tried to wash this off. A little goes a long way, so it’s great that you can use this cleanser for a very long time before running out. This also definitely does cleanse the skin, but as someone with dehydration-prone skin, I did not enjoy the tightening sensation I experienced. I also did not love the inclusion of fragrance. I think only those in very hot and humid weathers with very oily skin could use this cleanser without feeling too tight.

Would I repurchase?: No.

Dupe?: If you’re after a foaming cleanser, then the Krave, Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser is very similar in texture (however it also doesn’t suit my dehydration-prone skin) – Swatches + Review HERE. I actually think the Numbuzin cleanser is less tightening than this cleanser (for my skin).

  • The Round Lab – 1025 Dokdo Cleanser is also foaming and very similar to the Numbuzin cleanser (also contains fragrance), however it too, isn’t great for dehydration-prone skins.

Available at: Yesstyle: LINK / Coreelle: LINK

  • The Ordinary’s Glucoside Foaming Cleanser is also very similar and very affordable. Once again however, I would not recommend it to dehydration-prone (and dry) skins. Swatches + Review HERE)

Available at: The Ordinary: LINK / Cult Beauty: LINK

  • The CeraVe Hydrating, Cream-to-Foam Cleanser (Swatches + Review HERE) is less stripping than the Numbuzin (but see below for a very suitable cleanser for dehydration-prone skins).

Available at: Cult Beauty: LINK / Look Fantastic: LINK

  • The Haruharu Wonder Gel Cleanser – Now this is a foaming cleanser I would recommend! It is a Gel—-> Foam cleanser that does NOT strip the skin while cleansing it. It is also Fragrance + EO Free (Swatches + Review HERE).

Availablae at: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK / Soko Glam: LINK

  • The Geek & Gorgeous 101 Jelly Joker is a very gentle gel cleanser, (however, it doesn’t really foam up, if that’s what you want). I’m using it again right now and am really enjoying how it doesn’t make my skin feel tight at all (great for dehydration-prone skins). Swatches + Review HERE.

Youtube Video – Cleanser Swatches + Review:

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
