Review: Timeless Skin Care – 10% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum

Where to purchase: Timeless Skincare: LINK / Yesstyle: LINK / Target: LINK

Price: £18.77 / $23.85

Volume: This is 15ml (Also available in 30ml, 50ml, 120ml)

Made in: The USA.

What is it?: A brightening + collagen production stimulating serum containing 10% Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid (Antioxidants).

What does it do?: Brighten the skin, reduce skin dullness, reduce dark spots + reduce fine lines and wrinkles via collagen production + protect the skin from environmental damage.

Aims to: Brighten a dull skin tone / promote healthy cell turnover / reduce dark spots / stimulate collagen production / protect the skin from environmental damage.

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types. Particularly, First Time Vitamin C users and Sensitive Skins

What I think: I would agree. Although, very sensitive skins may prefer the Jumiso 5.5% Vitamin C Serum first (Swatches + Review HERE). In terms of Oily + Dry Skins; All skin types could use this serum (even my Oily-Combination Skin finds it wearable).

Vegan?: Yes.

Cruelty Free?: Yes.

How long does it last after opening?: 3 Months.

Of Note: The product is fresh if the serum has a clear look. A hint of yellow is natural due to the natural oxidation process. Once it gets very dark (see the picture below), it loses its potency.

Packaging: Plastic bottle with a pump-mechanism and a lid. I think because this is basically water, it does tend to leak a bit from the pump.

Directions: Apply onto clean areas of the skin (face, neck and upper chest) in the AM and PM. Follow with an SPF in the AM. For those with more sensitive skins, apply this in the PM (Directions here).

Note: The brand states that refrigerating this product will help it last longer, otherwise, store it in a cool, dry place.

How I use it: I applied this both in the AM and PM (to use quicker, before it oxidised). I used a pump for the neck and a pump for the face. I used it after toning and before a moisturiser / spf.

Key Ingredients: 10% L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) – Brightening, Collagen-stimulating (boosts the skin’s own collagen production) and inhibits melanin production in the skin (reduces dark spots and pigmentation), boosts UV protection under a sunblock. Ferulic Acid (Antioxidant that increases photoprotection of vitamin c) / Vitamin E (works with Vitamin C and Ferulic acid to enhance photoprotection).

Other Key Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid (Hydrating) / Panthenol (Soothing + Moisturising)

Full Ingredients: Water, Ethoxydiglycol, L-Ascorbic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Alpha Tocopherol, Polysorbate 80, Panthenol, Ferulic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Benzylalcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid

NOTE: The Incidecoder has a full ingredient breakdown HERE

Texture: Liquid (Water > Gel) serum that simply slides down the hand. It absorbs quite quickly. This is not uncomfortable for my oily-combination skin to wear.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: No.

Balls up?: No.

  • As you can see, from the colour chart above; my serum has pretty much oxidised (according to Timeless’s direction). It’s a shame, as I definitely was not able to use this for 3 months before it has become unusable, more like 1-2 months.
  • However, I also did not put this in the fridge (the directions state, putting this in the fridge is a good idea). Therefore I would recommend definitely refrigerating this product, to keep it for longer.

Layerable?: Yes.

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, this has a watery texture and absorbs quickly.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free (Smells strongly of the typical Vitamin C)

Good Under Makeup?: Yes

How long have I been using this?:~2 Months (as this begun to oxidise rapidly).

Will I use until Completion?: I can’t, as this will oxidise fully before I’m done with it.

The Effect?: Short Term: Hydrating (Didn’t irritate my skin). Long Term: Skin protection, improvement in the overall tone of the skin and reduction in post-blemish hyperpigmentation. I just wish this didn’t oxidise so quickly so I could keep using it and see more results.

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Cruelty-Free
  • Not sticky / tacky
  • Not greasy
  • Lightweight
  • Absorbs fast (check swatch video)
  • Brightening effects and helps with the skin’s tone

What I don’t like:

  • Have to put it in the fridge to keep it from oxidising too quickly (mine went off at the 2 month mark when this is supposed to be ok for 3 months).
  • The packaging is a bit leaky

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4 (nearly 3.9) / 5 – This has a great texture and is very comfortable/wearable (especially for my oily-combo skin) as this almost feels like water on the skin. I didn’t feel warm an this didn’t sting my skin or make it red. This contains 10% Vitamin C, so it does help brighten and protect the skin (I don’t have an issue with the efficacy), it’s just a shame that this oxidised quicker than I expected (I did not put this in the fridge but I kept it in my cupboard and it is Winter int he UK i.e. not hot and not a lot of sun). The packaging is a bit leaky and this does have a strong Vitamin C scent.

Would I repurchase?: Yes, even though I’m not happy how quick this starts to oxidise. Next time, I would keep this in the fridge and use it quicker.

Dupe?: My personal favourite is the Paula’s Choice C15 Booster (Swatches + Review HERE), although it too oxidises quickly (but not as quick as the Timeless serum). This is also Fragrance + EO Free.

  • This Timeless serum in fact, is a dupe for the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic (Swatches + Review HERE) – it is Fragrance + EO Free.

  • The Drunk Elephant – C-Firma, Fresh Day Serum (Swatches + Review HERE) contains 15% Ascorbic acid + Ferulic Acid (Also unscented + Vegan + Cruelty-Free).

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
