Review: Jumiso – All Day Vitamin Pure C 5.5 Glow Serum

Where to purchase: Yesstyle: LINK / Stylevana: LINK

Price: ~£ 21.57 / $27.37

Volume: 30ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: A Brightening Serum containing Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin to even the skin’s tone and fade dark spots. Containing Black Chokeberry (and excluding Fragrance + Essential Oils) to try and reduce irritation.

Aims to: Provide Antioxidant benefits / Fade Hyperpigmentation / Reduce Dullness / Stimulate Collagen Production (Via the Vitamin C)

Supposedly Good for: All Skin Types

What I think: I would agree, particularly for Oily + Combination Skins. Sensitive Skins could use this as it’s a lower Vitamin C % and is unscented. Furthermore; first-time Vitamin C Users could use this product (and space out uses).

How long does it last after opening?: 3 Months.

pH: 3.95 (Acidic)

Directions: Use in the AM + PM after cleansing + toning (follow up with a moisturiser). Apply Sunblock in the AM.

Note: It is recommended to keep this product in the fridge (as it oxidises quite quickly) and do not use this product when it turns dark (especially when it gets to the coca-cola shade). My product is still at yellow and has not turned dark at ~2 Months.

How I use it: I apply this as instructed (no huge alterations).

Brightening Ingredients: 5.5% Ascorbic Acid (I.e. L-AA or Vitamin C: This is a Brightening Ingredient that also helps stimulate collagen production in the skin, helping with elasticity, and also helps protect the skin from free radicals) / 2% Ascorbyl Glucoside (A Vitamin C Derivative that also helps to brighten the skin) / Alpha-Arbutin (Skin brightening and de-pigmenting agent that isn’t as strong as Kojic acid).

Is 5% Vitamin C Still effective?: There is conflicted debate between 5% being an effective (Reference: LINK) number and at least 8% that is needed to be effective. Overall it seems that 5% is a good starting point, and then it is recommended to increase the % as your skin gets used to the effects (The maximum effective vitamin C percentage is 20% but I personally like 15% on my sensitive skin).

Other Key Ingredients: Ferulic Acid (Antioxidant + also meant to help with the stabilisation and effectiveness of Vitamin C / Hyaluronic Acid (Hydrating) / Black Chokeberry Extract (Antioxidant).

Full Ingredients: Aronia Melanocarpa Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbyl Glucoside, 1,2- Hexanediol, Tromethamine, Alpha-Arbutin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol, Ferulic Acid

NOTE: The Incidecoder have a full ingredient breakdown HERE

Texture: This is a lightweight watery serum that runs down the hand. It absorbs fast (see the video swatch) and doesn’t really sting or irritate the skin (unless I have a wound or broken skin). I don’t get a hot or warm sensation when applying. It simply feels like a hydrating serum. However, this doesn’t feel like water i.e. it has that slight Vitamin C-type oil texture (but this isn’t an oil serum), and doesn’t feel uncomfortable to wear.

Sticky?: No.

Greasy?: No.

Balls up?: No.

  • As you can see this is slightly yellow (this was at the 1-2 month mark).

You can se that this is lightweight and already starts to smooth out and absorb

Does this Sting if the Skin has been Irritated / Sensitised by Shaving/Heavy Retinol Use?: Yes.

Summer or Winter?: Oily + Combination Skins – All Year. Dry skins – In the Sumer.

Layerable?: Yes.

Swatch Comparison: No Product (Left) VS Product (Right)

Video Swatch:

  • As you can see, there is no tackiness coming from this serum.

Fragrance?: Fragrance + EO Free. However the scent isn’t that great (smells like vitamin C mixed with a hint of metal).

Good Under Makeup?: Yes.

How long have I been using this?: ~2 months (as this goes off in 3 months).

Will I use until Completion?: Yes (as it’s not irritating).

How Long will that take?: The packaging says this must be used in 3 months. If it turns Coca-Cola brown then, then I will stop, even if I do not finish the product.

The Effect?: Short Term: Hydrated/Moisturised skin. Long Term: This has been helping with both dullness and radiance and alleviating the look of dark spots, particularly post-acne marks. This is a slower process than a serum that is 20% Vitamin C for example (this is 5.5% + 2% Ascorbyl Glucoside) but at least the effects are slow and steady, and this does not irritate my sensitive skin.

What I like:

  • Fragrance + EO Free
  • Cruelty-Free
  • Lightweight
  • Not greasy (has a typical Vitamin C serum texture that feels like an oil-water base)
  • Not too sticky or tacky
  • Has a lower-end Vitamin C %, so this isn’t irritating for my sensitive skin (good for first-time Vitamin C users)

What I don’t like:

  • Must use in 3 months (i.e. oxidises relatively quick and doesn’t remain potent for long, therefore I feel like I need to use a lot i.e. rush using this)
  • Quite a low Vitamin C % and wont be suitable for seasoned Vitamin-C users (and those who want results quicker)
  • Not the best smell (Vitamin C + Metal scent)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4 (Nearly 3.9) / 5 – I have enjoyed using this serum, particularly because it hasn’t been irritating to the skin. This is a lightweight, gentle Vitamin C serum that 1. Is a great addition to a brightening skincare routine 2. To new vitamin C users and 3. To those with sensitive skins and want to use a lower % Vitamin C serum before moving onto an 8 or 10% serum in the future. I appreciate that this doesn’t feel uncomfortable to wear. The smell isn’t the best (sort of a citric acid + metallic scent), and this (like many other vitamin c serums in this type of formulation) must be used in 3 months, which isn’t easy to do and forces me to use more product than I would normally use for a serum.

Would I repurchase?: Yes

Dupe?: The Paula’s Choice C15 (15%) Booster is always a good option for a Vitamin C – (Swatches + Review HERE).

Available at: Paula’s Choice: LINK

  • The Timeless Skin Care – 10% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum – like the Jumiso, this does oxidise quickly, but it is effective while it lasts and is a good dupe for the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Serum (Swatches + Review HERE).

Available at: Yesstyle: LINK

  • The Numbuzin – 5+ Vitamin Concentrated Serum also contains Vitamin C (Although a smaller amount), and a Vitamin C Derivative, as well as numerous other skin-brightening ingredients, without the acidity of a pure Vitamin C Serum, so it’s even gentler for newbies while still helping to brighten the skin.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
