[Video] Vegreen Rice Cleanser Review – Is it good?

Hello all!

I was sent a few items from the K-beauty, Vegan and Cruelty-Free Brand Vegreen, and wanted to make this video Swatching + Reviewing my FAVOURITE product from the brand so far, which is their Rice Facial Wash Cleanser. I provide my HONEST review (down below), swatching and comparing it with some other cleansers and which skin type this product would actually suit. I hope you find this review informative and useful!

This Cleanser (and the brand in general) is Fragrance and Essential-Oil Free! It is also alcohol-free and does not contain sulphates. It is Vegan and cruelty-free (Not suitable for Malassezia sufferers and is EU-allergen Safe).

It is a daily-use gel cleanser which can be used both in the AM and PM and is around £10.29 / US$10.81 for 150ml on Stylevana, and has a pH of around 5.5 which means it is close to the skin’s natural pH therefore this 1. Shouldn’t feel too stripping on the skin and 2. Should not disrupt the skin’s barrier. And is also suitable for Oily skins.

The aim of this cleanser is to mildly cleanse the skin, hydrate and brighten it without disrupting the skin’s barrier, so sensitive skins can use this.

This is a water-based cleanser, so it can be used to wash off regular dirt, grime and Sunblocks and can also be used as a second cleanser in a two-step makeup-removing routine. (After using an oil-based cleanser to initially dissolve and remove makeup).

In terms of Key Ingredients; this contains a plethora of antioxidants such as 74.96% Rice Extract  (Oryzanol) which is not only well-ageing, but brightening and hydrating.

Note: The benefits of Rice Extract on the skin, you can see this article: Dermatological uses of rice products: Trend or true? Dina H Zamil 1, Rujman M Khan 1, Tara L Braun 1, Zeena Y Nawas 1

And: Evaluating the effect of rice (Oryza sativa L.: SRNC05053-6-2) crude extract on Psoriasis using in vitro and in vivo models.

(Also antioxidants) Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E nourish and protect the skin. And Lauric acid is also included which is anti-blemish.

This also contains skin soothing, redness reducing and moisturising ingredients such as: Betaine, Allantoin (also scar healing). Ceramides and arginine (also moisturising and soothing) in particular, are skin-identical ingredients that hold moisture in the skin, preventing trans-epidermal water loss.

Another soothing, redness reducing antioxidant included is centella asiatica extract, which protects the skin from external damage. Other Soothing ingredients include Ivy Leaf extract (which is also antibacterial) and Oat Kernel Extract, which is also moisturising (and soothing), and Peach Extract (Soothing and Moisturising too). Please put picture of peach, picture of centella, picture of oat and picture of Ivy.

And as you can see; the surfactants are listed on the screen now: Coco-BetaineSodium Lauroyl Methyl IsethionateSodium Methyl IsethionateLauric AcidSodium LaurateDecyl GlucosidePolyglyceryl-10 Laurate. These determine the effectiveness, strength and potential drying qualities of the cleanser. Blur the background and have the surfactants listed on the screen? Or half blurry and have the cleanser sitting on the other half while it’s listing these and other ingredients previously?

So as you can see, this cleanser overall works to cleanse and hydrate the skin, trying to not strip the skin of its natural moisture or damage the skin’s barrier while cleansing, and also helps provide some soothing and protective ingredients.

In terms of the texture: This is a gel cleanser so it has a gel texture. Surprisingly when dry; the product isn’t really sticky or tacky and is easy to spread along the skin.

Does this foam up? As you can see when adding water, this does foam up! It doesn’t foam up drastically like The Ordinary’s Foaming Cleanser (Swatches + Review HERE) for instance, but it gently foams up which I prefer as someone with more sensitive and dehydration-prone skin.

Directions: ”Apply a coin-sized amount onto your palm, add water and rub both palms together to lightly foam up the product and then massage gentle onto the skin, rinsing off with lukewarm water and patting dry. ”

Does this dry out the skin?: On a Scale of 1-10 where 1 isn’t stripping at all and 10 is painfully stripping; I would put this at 5; so right in the middle it doesn’t leave the skin painfully tight and dry after using, but of course it isn’t as moisturising and hydrating as a cream cleanser or a high percentage oil cleanser would be. But it is one of the more gentler Gel cleansers I have used. My Oily-Combination skin can tolerate this; hence why I would recommend this particularly to Oily, Combination and Normal Skin Types (Even sensitive skins could use this).

The brand does not state this cleanser is a makeup remover and in fact recommends this as a second, water-based cleanser in a double-cleansing, makeup removing routine. However, for the purposes of this review; I wanted to test out the makeup removing capabilities of this cleanser. What I did was apply a liquid eyeliner, lip pencil, liquid lip and lipstick. I rubbed the product on dry for 30 seconds, then added water and rubbed again for 30 seconds and then washed the product off WITHOUT rubbing the skin. Overall; the Liquid Eyeliner and Liquid Lip remained. So yes, after first using an oil-based makeup remover; and then using this cleanser in a two-step routine; this can be pretty effective.

Furthermore; If you like The Inkey List’s Hyaluronic acid cleasner; then you could enjoy this cleanser, as it too focuses on hydration and not stripping the skin. However, if you’re not a fan of the really strong chemical-y scent of The Inkey List’s cleanser, then this is a good alternative as I get no strong fragrance or unpleasant scent from this. Fragrance + EO Free.

Furthermore; this has a similar gel texture to The Ordinary’s Glucoside Foaming cleanser, however if you found it too stripping on the skin like me (Review), then this is another good alternative as this is less stripping and more gentle on the skin.

In conclusion: this is a Gentle unscented gel-cleanser that can be used daily and second in a double-cleansing routine. It foams up mildly and can be used by Sensitive Skins. It is suitable for Oily, Combination and Normal Skin Types but I don’t think Dry skins would find this difficult to use. This is so far my favourite product from the brand and I will continue to use it until it runs out!

Dupes (Other Gentle Foaming Cleansers):

  • The Geek & Gorgeous – Jelly Joker is another favourite of mine; it’s a Gel–>Foam Cleanser. It is Fragrance + EO Free, Vegan and Cruelty-Free.

Available at: Geek & Gorgeous: LINK

  • The Beautystat – Vegan Cleanser is another great dupe. I have really been enjoying using this cleanser as well. It is Fragrance + EO Free and Vegan. It contains silver which is supposed to help remove more dirt and grime from the skin, but nonetheless, this isn’t uncomfortable to use on the skin.

Available at Beautystat: LINK

  • The Hada Labo – Gentle Foaming Cleanser (Swatches + Review): HERE – Is gentle on my Dehydration-prone skin while still foaming up. It’s Fragrance + EO Free as well.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
